Is good quality bedding worth it?

Always felt like a waste to spend a lot on bedding so all the duvet sets I own are from Ikea or Primark. I visited a friend's home lately and she had some beautiful bedding from piglets in bed, really made the room pretty but went to check online and OMG it's so pricey.
Is it really worth spending money on these things, does it make an actual difference to a night sleep? If so I was thinking of treating ourselves to a nice set for Xmas - not Piglets as that's really too pricey but maybe a nice set from John Lewis or so. Any brands you can recommend worth checking out?

High thread count cotton sheets and (especially) pillowcases are absolutely worth it. They feel wonderful. The brand is less important than 100% cotton and a high thread count.

Polycotton feels like sandpaper afterwards.

Totally agree that good quality bedding is must! You don't need to go over 800 thread count as it starts to have the opposite effect and feel heavy and uncomfortable!

My cotton bedlinen is from M&S. Can't remember how much but I think two duvet covers and two 400 count fitted sheets cost roughly £150. Tesco Finest and Sainsbury's used to do lovely cotton bed stuff but no longer.

Have a look at TKMaxx for some nice sets. I definitely agree good quality bedding is amazing, I love getting into my bed at the end of the day!

Good quality bedding actually gets nicer the more you wash it - I've got a plain white Cotton & Cologne duvet cover I must have bought over 20 years ago and it's soft as butter. Ditto French linen duvet covers from Soak and Sleep. You don't even need to iron linen bedlinen as it's meant to look crumpled.

Definitely! The higher thread count the better. Wait until the sales.

Wow thank you all, I never even heard about thread count! How much should I aim for then?

I will never go back to any other bedding than linen now after trying it a few years ago upon a MN recommendation for being great during menopausal hot flushes. 😂
Get mine from soak & sleep.

I would highly recommend bamboo sheets, well worth the price. Cheap bedding goes bobbly and is uncomfortable.

Totally worth it op, I bought 1000 and 1200 thread count sheets from John Lewis, all In white for all the beds, replaced all the pillows , thick hotel ones, and duvets, goose down, and irs like sleeping in a big luxurious cloud.

Ive only gone as far as 800tc due to costs on a fitter sheet. I wouldn’t buy less than 409tc though.

I've gone through various companies and am currently using next cotton duvets with king of cotton Egyptian fitted sheets. I got bored of neutrals and love next's bright colours!

I like sheets that are a minimum of 400 but no more than 800.
Dunelm or M&S are good value and I always check the sales.
