What would you do with this kitchen wall?

In the process of buying or new house and this is our kitchen - for some reason there is only one single wall unit on the right hand wall and no extractor or anything above the hob.
So there is a single cupboard at the far right when facing that wall, then there is a source the width of another single cupboard to the left of that, then the hob

What would you do? Try to get more of the same units? Open shelving? Find an extractor? Mix of all 3?

We haven't got the budget to re-do the whole kitchen so looking for easy, cost effective ideas.

Is it a space that's meant to be used as a dining area?

Sorry I've just included the full room pic to show the whole space in case that makes a difference, yes that's the stunning area.
The wall I'm asking about is just the kitchen, same wall as the cooker/hob

I would want an extractor fan above the hob then more cupboards (don't like open shelves as they get messy to easily)

WhatMe123 · 06/12/2024 15:05

Open shelving 👌🏻

Chewbecca · 06/12/2024 15:07

Open shelves, without a doubt.
I am not a fan of extractors (🤣), prefer to open the window if needed.

ObtuseMoose · 06/12/2024 15:10

I wouldn't do open shelves over the hob, everything will get greasy and dirty in no time.

BigDahliaFan · 06/12/2024 15:12

cheapest would be open shelving and just open the window when cooking.

sel2223 · 06/12/2024 15:19

I was kind of thinking a large metal wall clock above the hob if not doing an extractor, then open shelving between the hob and window?
(I agree about shelves above the hob)

Open shelves, definitely. With hooks or rails underneath for hanging utensils etc.

Mix of all 3. If you can get a matching wall unit I’d put one in the corner, as that is the obvious tea making area so you need mug storage . Then extractor above hob. Then shelves to fill any gaps.

If you want a proper ducted extractor you may need a full run of cupboards to its left to hide ducting.

minipie · 06/12/2024 15:37

Don’t put a clock above the hob, it will just get greasy.

Open shelves flanking the hob and some sort of retro tin advertising sign would look nice
