Painting Kitchen Cupboards

My kitchen cupboards are good quality just scuffed etc, I’d like to repaint them and quite fancy having them spray painted by one of those firms that come in. Anyone done this?

It is hard work repainting and getting a good finish - sanding, priming, a couple coats of paint. To get a really good job you'll need to take the doors off. I've done it and wouldn't again. I don't know much about companies who come in to repaint.

Depends if you want to cost in your time to process. It might just be cheaper and easier to just buy and fit new doors.

We had ours done this year , was a solid wood handmade kitchen in a layout that worked, just 20 years plus old and tired.
I dithered for ages as it seemed such a massive step but am so pleased I did.
Took a week but you don't have to empty cupboards. They take fronts off them mask up whole room and spray paint .

I had it done - I do not regret it one bit!

It looks so much better and is far easier as no cupboards need be emptied for the job.

It's cheaper than replacing the doors and in my opinion looks better than new doors made from an inferior material.

Yes I really don’t fancy painting it myself as very difficult to get a good finish. So did they take your doors off or just spray in situ? Would you mind sharing the cost? And how many cupboards you had sprayed? Also how durable are you finding the finish? Thanks

We had it done by a company back in October. I originally painted it myself and it didn't hold up at all, was covered in faded bits, scratches etc from normal use.

We did have to completely empty the kitchen cupboards. The company was a spray painting one. They came one day to take all the doors off and take them away, then they came back two weeks later to refit the painted doors and paint the bits that couldn't be removed.

We're so happy with it.

All sounds positive about the spray painting. For those that have done it are you finding the finish durable? And how much did it cost? Thanks

I paid £1000 just over two years ago - 11 cupboard doors plus 3 drawers.

Spray Dek Ltd on Facebook.

That’s quite reasonable. How have you found the finish, is it standing up to the inevitable knocks and scrapes? Would you do it again?

Yes - It has transformed the area and after two years it's kept really well (I chose a light colour).
