Paint colour for hallway - sort of gold/warm taupe?

Has anyone had success with a pale or midrange non-metallic gold or warm taupe internal wall colour scheme? This is for our hallway - long and high-ceilinged, but not especially wide, in an Edwardian townhouse. Little natural light but well-served with artificial (yellow) light.

Currently it’s a pale buttery yellow, but it’s a bit sickly and doesn’t provide enough contrast with the (warm white) woodwork and coving. I’d like to find something a little bit earthier, more along the lines of desert sand. When I say gold I mean the colour, not a blingy feel.

Carpets are Persian rugs, mostly dark red but with dark blue and gold highlights. Floorboards are a warm oak.

I haven’t been on this board before, so thanks in advance for any ideas.

Shamelessly watching your thread as I'm after the same sort of colour.
Hallway is currently white but looks like it's been patchworked with all the colour samples I've used trying to find the right shade.
Hopefully someone will be along soon to help you (& me) 😁

Tricky, isn’t it @Missionimprobable! I think we have given up on the “gold” idea as everything we tested just felt much too yellow. Back to the drawing board…

Craig and Rose, Regency Cream in their 1829 Vintage collection is a non metallic, champagne colour. It’s a great warm neutral. There’s also French Ochre which is more gold. The chalky emulsion marks easily though so you may want to get it mixed at a decorating centre if you find that you like it!

Thank you @MummyJ12 - you’ve inspired me to order samples of two colours from Craig and Rose.

I found Dimity from F&B came out quite a nice warm beige colour in our lounge. Not particularly yellow toned so not gold really, but definitely in the same kind of family. It had more of that pinky/brown/taupe edge to it (while very much still being a light beige not in any way actually pink or brown, if that makes sense).

Too dark for what I was looking for, but maybe it would work for you!

Thanks @LoquaciousPineapple - I hadn’t seen Dimity before. We are I think close to settling on Graham & Brown’s Cambridge Cream, which is not gold at all but does have the warmth and uplifting quality we have been looking for.

F&B hay?

JessyCarr · 27/11/2024 17:12

@tangobravo We did sample F&B Hay, as friends of our have used it to great effect. But what worked in their naturally-lit room was just way too yellow in ours!

Paint & Paper Library, Muga? We have in a room with lots of light.

Might be a bit too strong! Beautiful colour though.

Edward Bulmer ‘Trumpington’ is just beautiful imo and a deep ‘hallway’ kind of colour!

Thanks so much for all the ideas and lovely colour schemes you’ve used. We have decided to go more towards biscuit rather than gold in the end, but there are some great ideas on the thread which I am sure will inspire others!

Hmm, I've been thinking about having the hall, stairs & landing repainted - they've been sage green since I was pg with my now 22yo, but I've not had a colour appeal to me.
Sandy gold does though - so thanks!

F&B Skimming Stone is a winner in my opinion

JessyCarr · 28/12/2024 19:07

Yes @Vestibular I agree - Skimming Stone is a great colour.

By way of update, after sampling what seemed like every warm neutral on the market and having a “false start” first coat in a colour that ended up totally washed out by our lighting, we settled on Little Greene’s Bath Stone. It’s worked out great for our space, feeling both earthy and a bit luxurious at the same time.
