I've never painted a wall in my life .
I've seen it said that these are easier for novices.
Anyone any experience?

I would be painting up to the picture rail, the ceiling and bit above picture rail have been d one ( not by me ).
The walls have already been painted white and I'm thinking of a final coat of Farrow & Ball in an off white.
I think the thing that bothers me most is not applying the paint evenly.
When I've tried before I think my mistake is overloading the roller and also going over an area too many times.
You guys seem so knowledgeable, all tips and comments gratefully received.
Including why F&B.

Do 2 final coats in your chosen colour. It’ll be perfect!

Oh , thank you everyone !
F&B is chalky I think .
Guess I could practice in my bedroom , which is half decorated .

Which F&B colour are you thinking of @whatwouldyoudoifisangoutofkey ?

If I could ask one more question - what type of roller might be best for applying F&B which I think is quite a thin paint ?

All white, @heldinadream

Much better with a roller.

F&B suggest
Medium pile, woven polyester sleeve for use on walls and ceilings
Looks uncomplicated

Farrow and ball is like milk, ie runny, expensive and as a beginner I would avoid. You can get a colour match to it. If you are near a decorator centre get Johnstones if you are near B & Q get Valspar premium. Matt paint is the best.

No one comes out of the womb holding a paintbrush. It is a learned skill. Go slowly, give yourself time. Depending on how much furniture I have in a room I often paint one wall at a time.

I use a 1" or 2" inch brush to cut in edges and a tiny stiff brush for tight corners. The trick to cutting in is to load the brush but don't go strain in to the edge but work your way into it with the brush at almost vertical angle for walls and horizontal for ceilings.
Then, as the walls in my house are not vast and I HATE cleaning rollers, I use a small radiator roller instead. It takes more dipping in the paint but is much more controllable and less splatters. Plus easier on the arms.

Such great advice from you all , I'm so grateful
F&B is in my radar because I'm told by stylish and decorator friend that it has a very soft finish , sort of chalky.I can sort of see this, tho might be the emperor's clothes.
It's that powdery finish more than the colour that I'm after.
Can anyone recommend something similar .
Quite happy to be told I'm being ridiculous 🙂
