talk to me about victorian floorboards

We’ve uncovered Victorian floorboards on our ground floor. The idea is to sand them.

These stains don’t seem to go away, it’s been two weeks. Shouldn’t they’ve dried out by now? They feel slightly damp but the room is cold. There’s a crawling space underneath them.

I’m going to observe whether the shape of the stains changes because that would indicate they’re wet right?

What to do? Can I sand and seal them?

thank you

I’m sorry what stains do you refer to?

Could that be glue?

I think I would sand that and then see.

That would be great, I hope it is glue. It shows the imprint pattern of the carpet underlay

You mean see whether the mark comes off? Can I make it worse by sanding it? And I guess I won’t be sealing it yet, just sanding.

No you won’t make it worse by sanding, sanding literally takes the top layers off, it just depends on how deep it has penetrated.
