1930s lounge. Help

Bought this fab little art deco cast iron fireplace for my 1930s house. The front room which used to be a dining room has no chimney wall but did used to have a fireplace which we removed. We kept the hole until we could find a decent replacement. Now I'm looking at the wall and wondering what to do with it. Husband set against a false chimney wall with alcoves. Anybody got suggestions? Wallpaper attached.

Are you wanting to use it or just have it for decoration? Either way I think might want to install a chimney brick behind it to make the back of the fire opening look neat. If it were me, I would centralise it on the chimney breast and then bolster out a hole with a bolster and lump hammer about the same size as the firebrick.put the firebrick in and then attach the fireplace with screws and Rawl plugs via the little holes on the side of the surround.

We have our fireplaces (1920s house) on a flat wall, with no chimney breasts. The houses on our street are similar.

We got reclaimed fireplaces, the builders knocked out the bricks to the lintel above. You could tile the hearth bit with reclaimed or new tiles, or you could get a fireplace stone or slate.

Depending on what you're doing with your flooring, you can then make sure the slate is at the right level.

That's a lovely fireplace.

We've got tiles for it. It won't be functional. Our place is detached so the fireplace chimney breast is outside. Trying to arrange a flat wall with no alcoves. Presently thinking 4 60cm wide double wall cabinets as base units and mounted on a frame?

Ah okay, I understand! We are the same with external chimney breasts. Do you need the storage? We didn't, so to keep the rooms as large and open as possible have just put big mirrors / art over the fireplaces, and an accent chair to the side of the fireplace.

Some of the flat pack made to measure companies (fittingly, online bedroom etc) could do some units that look built in or bespoke

Ooh hadn't thought of an accent chair. That's something to mull over. The fireplace alcove looks is so 'done' on Instagram that I'm struggling to visualise an alternative set up

You could mount it on the wall and put a fire surround and mantlepiece over it. Tile inside the fire surround and wallpaper around.

I might go a bit wild and get a glass splash back type picture of a fire (or anything else you fancy, bunch of flowers?) to go in the fire opening. I got a dramatic picture splash back for my cooker which looks great, I don't remember the company I used, but this sort of thing, they have a huge range of pictures or you can use your own.

Got me looking now, I like this one for a fireplace, or something random.

Edited

Might just get a nice lantern to put inside with some candles.

I like the idea of a lantern or hurricane with candles in the hearth.

Will this be a dining room or living room? Will you need a tv still on that wall? Perhaps something like the Samsung frame tv.

If a dining room, I'd play with scale, and have something like a big mirror or art leaning on one side, and an accent chair and little drink table on the other. Or you could have a freestanding display cabinet like this type of thing on one side https://www.coxandcox.co.uk/astoria-display-cabinet/?gadsource=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD5BaaMlrV78FNt3kX6GRuMh4FYV

Will you put the picture rails back in? That's made a huge difference to our rooms and really helped with the proportions

I have a 1930 house and I put an electric stove with flame effect in the living room and I am now trying to source a period fireplace surround to put around the stove.

I just wanted to say I really like the look of your cast iron fireplace :).

It's from Fireplace Superstore in Poulton. Highly recommend as they have a selection of reclaimed surrounds.

Yes, rail going back in. Tile shown. The blue paper is on the fireplace wall and the cream everywhere else.
