Originally wanted quartz upstand continued up as a splash back but Howdens say you can’t so looking at glass but hate the look of the screws in it. Wondering if you can get it fitted without.

Ours doesn't have screws - its glued on.

ektvevkt · 19/10/2024 07:36

Can you see the glue behind it? Looking for clear.

How do you think they’ll fix it without glue or screws?

Rosiethewonderdog · 19/10/2024 07:44

why clear?

Pillowfights · 19/10/2024 07:46

When you say clear, do you mean completely see through like a window?
Surely you'd then see the wall/bare plaster behind?

IamChipmunk · 19/10/2024 07:47

Ours has no screws and you can't see the glue. It's silver...

Rosiethewonderdog · 19/10/2024 07:58

You can have any colour you like including the colour of the paint on your walls - unless you are looking for clear so you can change the colour but it's never going to come off on one piece.

ektvevkt · 19/10/2024 08:12

So will have green cupboards with white quartz surfaces and a neutral tone on walls so presuming people have clear to go over wall tones. I think another colour will clash. Not sure I’d find the exact same colour as our cupboards. It’s such a pain Howdens say I can’t continue the quartz up behind. Wondering about brushed steel too now but not sure

You can colour-match the glass to the paint. Even if you were able to use clear glass the light will hit it differently to the wall. So it will look different. I have same colour on my book cases to my walls - but the wood is eggshell and the walls are dead flat - they don't look exactly the same - different textures and sheen.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 19/10/2024 08:38

You can get it colour matched to your paint by this company (others may also do the same) https://bespokeglassproducts.co.uk/products/

Any good recommendations of somebody who can do that?

You can continue your quartz, try another supplier

crumpet · 19/10/2024 08:40

Or find quartz-looking tiles which could be used for the splash back

LegoLady95 · 19/10/2024 08:44

I have quartz as a splashback along the length of quartz worktop, right up to cookerhood behind my hob and up to the windowsill - sill is also quartz. Have what you actually want and try a different supplier.

ballybooboo · 19/10/2024 11:21

Don't really know why Howdens say you can't have a quartz upstand?
Knock the worktop off the quote and go direct to a worktop supplier/fitter, this is a really common request, mine thought it was more unusual that I didn't want one

TheDogsMother · 19/10/2024 11:24

We have a black glass splash back which is glued on. The company we got it from could make absolutely any size, any colour, even photos and images.

I would get a new fitter with more experience of fitting and finishing kitchens. The fitter should have contacts that can make an upstand in Quartz or Corian. This stuff isn't rocket science for someone with experience - you shouldn't need to be trawling mumsnet looking for solutions to basic kitchen installation problems.

TwistedSisters · 19/10/2024 15:35

Agree with others, get your worktop fitted by an independent , it will look far better if granite is used for the backsplash.

bergamotorange · 19/10/2024 15:39

I don't understand the issue with screws? Sometimes if you just accept how things are life is much easier. Screws don't look 'bad' because they are just screws.

Don't glue it because it wrecks the plaster if you want to change it later.

twomanyfrogsinabox · 19/10/2024 15:46

No real reason you can't use Quartz it's just they don't do Quartz splashbacks, shop around and find somewhere that does. You can glue on the glass splashbacks or you might be able to use mirror mounts on the glass splashbacks but that would be a DIY option. I did that with a glass picture splashback behind the cooker, the mounts are still visible but not as bad as screws.

WhiteHorse92 · 19/10/2024 15:59

Yeah I agree with others, not sure why they're saying you can't incorporate the quartz worktop into a splashback. What has your kitchen fitter said about it? We have a Howden's kitchen but the designer actually told us not to use them for worktops and told us we would be better off going elsewhere, and our kitchen fitter didn't fit quartz worktops anyway. We just used a different company for the worktops, we don't have a quartz splashback but we have a continuation of the upstand up to and including thr windowsill and was no problem.

Houseplanter · 19/10/2024 16:07

Just had a Howdens kitchen and a full height quartz splashback. They're having you on OP

We had our quartz through Howdens but would echo an independent would be cheaper.

billysboy · 19/10/2024 16:13

I made some glass splashbacks , used 9mm to template and then took to Euro glass at Park royal who cut them to size , i sprayed them with a can and then put mirror backing onto them and used mirror glass silicon to fix them

I f you use low iron glass it will not have a green hue either

They said they could do it but because quartz has resin in it there is a chance it could mark and they’ve had incidents of that happening so they’re not doing it now iykwim. I am going to ask around to be sure however it is a lot of money and I think I’m not sure I want to take the risk as I cook a lot.

The fitter won’t be fitting the quartz, the quartz fitter will be whether that would be Howdens or somebody else. They can do it but don’t advise it now. I’ve been very pleased with the service so far. To be fair to them splash back is down to personal taste.
