Living next door to our leasehold neighbours has taken a rather complicated turn with their recent building works. Although they informed us about the exterior wall insulation installation just a night before starting, they did not seek our permission, which has been somewhat disconcerting. While we understand that they need the work carried out for their property, the execution has caused some inconveniences that we hadn't anticipated. The scaffolding they put up extends directly above our entrance door and steps, forcing us to manoeuvre under this 'canopy' whenever we come and go. Adding to the frustration, they've covered our doorsteps with thick plastic, taped down without any prior discussion. This unexpected obstruction not only makes our door area look untidy but also raises safety concerns—especially when wet, as it creates a slippery hazard.
To make matters worse, the construction team seems to have abandoned the job, having not returned since Tuesday (the walls do look finished however). We are left in limbo, uncertain whether they plan to resume work or if the scaffolding will finally be taken down, as promised Wednesday this week. Meanwhile, chunks of our plaster have ended up on our doorstep mat, leaving us with unsightly damage to our property. We’ve remained silent about these issues thus far, but it's becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the impact of their work on our day-to-day life.
Should we reach out now about the removal of the plastic from our steps and their intentions moving forward? After all, we deserve to feel safe and comfortable in our own home.
