Really hating the colours I've painted my dining room

Just getting the second coat on the paint in my dining room and I just am not vibing it - I picked a kind of taupe but it's come up really pink so have tried doing a colour drenched of a soft green on the upper segment of the walls and the ceiling. It's just too girly for me - I think if I were doing it again I'd go white on the bottom section of the room and a nice moody teal on top/ceilings. Husband is a bit exasperated and doesn't want to spend the money on getting new paint. I think likely I'm going to have to live with it because we have two young kids and it's a complete pain finding the time to decorate - any tips on how to style to make it bearable?

Oh gosh hello!

Thank you for advice and ideas - the posters who said it's like a lollipop have nailed it 🥲 it's like standing in a sweet haha!

I also think the olive green would have worked better, but we just don't have the time to keep getting paint etc, it's just a pain with the kids. I've slept on it and decided to just paint over the green with a white - we had the room re plastered and we had to take down (polystyrene!) coving and an old picture rail and will replace with nice new ones. I quite liked the pinky taupe until the green went up so that's what needs to go. Just going to dress it with nice textiles/accent colours/plants.

Thank you again, was helpful to have to confirmed I'd gone awry!

It's really not working at all and I cannot see a white stripe is going to fix anything at all!

One block colour would look better in my opinion, for me it would be a much darker colour too but that's not for everyone.

The olive green a pp suggested is lovely.

When choosing colour you cannot just pick any green to go with that pink. I did interior design for a night class. This lady on Tiktok explains choosing paint colours https://www.instagram.com/p/C-4fOjRheeZ/ and to consider what else is in the room ie the floor colour, your furniture choice.

This interior designer explains how to use a colour chart ie Little Green Paint chart because it is laid out in complimentary colours so you can pick a paint and then follow the horizontal line of the other paint colours. If you used Valspar then know that in B&Q the colours are also laid out in a particular order although it is slightly harder than the old Dulux range to figure out.

Also when considering a colour get a tester pot and paint it onto white printer paper at least 4 sheets if not 6 and when dry put those up on the wall especially in the corners by the window because the light is so different and then live with that for a week for the different light conditions due to where the sun is at different times of the day and how it looks under artificial light when you turn whatever light sources you have in the room.

If you have young children then consider Class 1 scrub rating paint for scrubability ie Acrylic durable matt. The Class 1 scrub details are on the front of the tin ie Johnstones, Crown etc.

I would just rake the taupe to the top, if you don't have a picture rail then it seems odd to have a stripe round the top. The green is awful and is what is ruining it, the taupe is very pinky but it's still a nice colour, the green is like toothpaste.
