Hi all, so I moved into our current place about a month ago. I'm a single mum so not sharing a room and below is a layout of my bedroom. I'm really struggling with the bed placement. I firstly had it against the left wall but felt very open and close to the door so didn't really like that. So I changed it to how it is below, and whilst I prefer the bed there, the off centered window really bugs me! I need to get some curtains for it too. Does anyone have any ideas on a better layout or how to get around improving it like this with the window behind the bed. Thanks in advance! :)
D = door
Green line = window
B = bed
F = fireplace
C = chest of drawers
WA = wardrobe
Two red blocks on left = night stands as don't fit either side with bed here

So bit of a marmite answer but mum has her room with the bed by the window but feet facing the window (awful fung Sui if you're into that!!). Then a chest of drawers at the head of the bed (she actually has her dressing table there with the mirror backing onto her headboard but you could use a CoD). Which then leaves you space to tuck the wardrobe in one of the alcoves.

Then, do you need two bedside tables? I have a caddy (slides under the mattress and then hangs down so there's space for a book, water bottle, hand cream etc) and then a light which clips onto the headboard. Means less furniture in the room so feels more spacious.

I can never sleep with a window behind me (don't know why)- I think I'd have the bed against the wall so the window is on your left side. Would that work?

Ohhh interesting, I wouldn't have thought of that! I'd be facing away from the door then and so not sure how I'd feel about not seeing the door is the only thing.

I originally had one either side, don't really need both but handy storage. Under my bed is full of stuff, christmas decs, books, extra bedding etc. as the house has literally no storage.

I’d put the head of the bed on the same wall as the door, ie the other way round to how you have it now. But that may also feel too open for you, if you didn’t like it with the head of the bed against the left hand wall. If you’re concerned about privacy could you get a screen to put between the bed and the doorway? Do you need two chests of drawers? Would the wardrobe fit into one of the alcoves if you didn’t have drawers there?

I'd put bed where the wardrobe is and wardrobe on the left wall. Bed can go pretty close to the fireplace if you don't need to get in that side.

My bedroom seems to be the same as yours, and I have the bed where the wardrobe is. Window opposite the bed. Put the wardrobe in one of the alcoves.

It doesn't bother me that the door is on the same side as the bed.

I also can only fit one bedside table next to the bed, but I'm single so I don't mind.

I did think of that, like pushing it up against the corner to the left. But they say to never have your feet facing towards the door, and so I just ruled it out 😅
Bedroom is on second floor which makes me feel better about where it is, but don't love it there, and find the offcenteredness annoying

I would either have the bed back on the left wall, or put it on the WA wall, feet facing the window. Definitely wouldn’t have it over the window. Then have one bedside tablet between you & the door. (Which unclear but could be easily hung the other way so you’re not sleeping behind the door)

Mumofone1xx · 04/09/2024 22:29

Thanks for all the replies. I did think of putting it where to wardrobe currently is, but the door swings open so thought it would be annoying hitting of the bed or bedside table. Also not sure if it would feel less secure.

One chest of drawers is for my daughter, one for me, as her room is small so to give her more space.

Get a door stopper to prevent the door hotting the bed or drawers. I have them in all bedrooms, screw into the floor easily and are cheap to buy.

longtompot · 04/09/2024 22:43

We have our bed where your wardrobe is, opposite the window. We have a bedside table on the side closest to the door, which the door opens up flush to, and on the other side I use a chest of drawers as my bedside table.
Our room is very wide but not very deep which is annoying as there isn't much room at the foot of our bed to get past as easily as I'd like.

Mumofone1xx · 04/09/2024 22:46

So I've just measured and I wouldn't be able to have a nightstand at all if I moved my bed to the WA wall as it would not leave enough room to open the chest of drawers :(

Layout

Hi
Would bed fit on the wall opposite the fireplace. Headboard on that wall then one night stand on wall with window. Maybe lose the other night stand to somewhere else in the apartment. If the wardrobe would fit into one of the alcoves beside fireplace I’d do that and move chest of drawers to where wardrobe is currently

Geneticsbunny · 05/09/2024 08:45

Just move that chest of drawers so it is next to the wardrobe on the left hand wall and then you can put a bedside table in the nook.

Would the wardrobe fit in the space where the chest of drawers was?

Tried this today and I would be stepping into the fireplace if I got out the right side of the bed then. Yeah the wardrobe would fit in there
