Decision paralysis- help!

Moved into our lovely 4 bed 2 bath house in March, quite the upgrade from our 1 bed flat. Which is lovely, but means lots more decorative decisions to make!

Before we moved I had pinterest boards upon pinterest boards stacked with ideas, but now we're here and I actually have time to do things I find myself completely paralysed with decision making. For example, we have a painter coming in a couple of weeks to do the living room and master bedroom- and I ca't for the life of me decide on a colour!

I just worry so much about getting it wrong- I look at my friends houses and they're all beautiful, but they're so clearly their "style" eg one friend is a maximalist, one is into period features. I don't feel like I have a specific style, so I find it so difficult to decide.

Does anyone else have this problem? How did you get over the creative block??

Just get samples and start putting them on walls, do mood boards on the walls, paint, wall paper etc and live with a few concepts for the duration.

I was you a few years ago, went from a 2 bed terrace to a four bed and was in a massive rush to make it mine.

I wish I had waited and lived in it for a year before making decisions.
You need to look at light and where and when is light and dark. That means living in for all four seasons to start you off.

If a room is painted the 'wrong' colour it's really no big deal to paint it again, however I would stay neutral at this point until you find your style.

Go to some new home show houses for ideas and then personlise a few bits.

Nothing looks worse IMO than a house that's so obviously colour co-ordinated with matching fabrics etc.

You have four bedrooms. Start with the smallest one to gain your confidence and take your time. You can't find your style overnight style evolves with time.

Good luck and how exciting.

Just to add I really like the forest green and cream look but add a bit of pink and blue ( just a touch) to make it yours.

experiment and enjoy then you will find your style.

I was the same last year when we moved to our first house after decades of renting. I just couldn't make decisions but was desperate to get rid of the previous occupants colour choices.

In the end I bought a lot (A LOT!! 15+) of those little sample pots and made lots of patches. Then I chose a colour for each room and the painter did them. I still haven't accessorised some rooms, including my bedroom because I don't have a clue what to go with but I'm much happier with 'my' colours.

I went with the idea in mind that it's no big deal to get a room repainted if I didn't love it.
