Thoughts on this paint colour anyone?

It’s a one bed flat. Living, kitchen and dining area all open plan. I was thinking of sage or olive green for ages and then started to think about a buttery yellow but saw this pic on Pinterest. The sofa is charcoal grey, carpet boring beige. Lots of doors. I was wondering about this goldy yellow for main area and a more buttery shade in bedroom and bathroom. There’s a tiny entry way which I thought about wallpering. It’s a modern, bland flat with a white kitchen and grey bathroom. Very bright as floor length south/west facing window in living room. Is this likely to look ‘too much’?

I would not put that with any kind of grey.

ShrubRose · 20/08/2024 16:47

It's really a personal thing, but I think I would find it oppressive during winter's darker days, even with a southwest window.

sweetpickle2 · 20/08/2024 17:41

Its a beautiful colour, but agree it doesnt go with grey.

invisiblecat · 20/08/2024 18:07

Agree with others. To be honest I can't think of anything that does go well with grey.

TemuSpecialBuy · 20/08/2024 18:09

That is a very difficult looking colour.
I'd stick with sage / olivegreen type colours

bergamotorange · 20/08/2024 18:11

I think it is a nice colour.

I don't know about it going with grey, is it anything like any of the yellows in this article?

Charcoal grey goes with pretty much anything, I think. You can always chuck something over the sofa.

These days I just think go for it with paint. You can always paint it out.

I'd stick with sage / olivegreen type colours Sage is everywhere now, it is the new grey and very boring.

TheBunyip · 20/08/2024 18:13

i really like it and think it'll make a fabulous backdrop.

i think the tone of grey will tell whether it "goes" or not a dark grey should be ok, but with throws, cushions, rugs and stuff about grey is pretty neutral and probs won't clash

PurpleDiva22 · 20/08/2024 18:13

I absolutely love it. I think it'll feel warm coming into the winter, just a beautiful shade. And I love this colour with grey

ForestofDoom · 20/08/2024 19:37

Thank you everyone. I agree the grey isn’t ideal but I do have throws and cushions to break it up a lot. I’ll try a sample in different lights and see how it looks. I like dark and cosy. I’ve never lived anywhere so light and airy and don’t feel cosy at all even in winter.

Bergamotorange thanks for the link. I like the first 2 ideas. I’d prefer the bathroom not to be grey tiled/floor, but it’s a HA flat and I’m so lucky to have it so will need to work with it. The grey sofa I don’t think will be a big prob. A couple more throws and cushions and it will dilute the charcoal. Again it wasn’t the sofa colour I wanted but it was a showroom one and a really good price.

I love that colour!

My one warning is that in warmer light (south or west facing!) it will "glow" Which is very welcoming and sociable, but might be overwhelming if you're not a bold-colour person. You could zone the room and paint just one area in it, with something blander in the living room bit.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 21/08/2024 22:48

Looks lovely and I think it will go well with grey too.
maybe break it up a bit with some navy?

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 21/08/2024 22:55

I think the charcoal grey will be fine with it (it goes with most colours).
I think it's a good colour, it's just a question of whether you can live with it.
I saw a very striking open plan kitchen diner that had a similar colour on one wall and a very dark grey on another. I would have been too scared to try it myself but it looked amazing.

ForestofDoom · 22/08/2024 23:16

I’m going to get a sample pot and paint a poster size piece of card as see what it looks like. I’m so sick of the oasis of white - kitchen units, kitchen tiling, all walls, 7 white doors in a small area. I feel it could take a bold colour. In theory that is. Thanks for your opinions. I’ve never painted anything in a non neutral shade so this would be a big departure.
