Does anyone have bare windows? No curtains, blinds etc

We have a large window and patio doors in our kitchen diner. We're not overlooked.

Over the years I've had curtains, roller blinds, Venetian, and Roman blinds. We've never used any of them.

I'm thinking of just leaving it all without (we're in the middle of a refurb so trying to think ahead).

Do you think this will look unfinished? Too bare?

We don't have curtains, blinds etc at our dining room windows, as the room faces the back garden.
We have two tall lamps on either side of the window (inside) and it looks fine. Curtains would be a waste of money and probably never/rarely used.

Our kitchen window is bare. We've had venetians, roller blinds, curtains, and nets. They all get grubby, so we've left the window with nothing. We aren't overlooked at all (the gardens that back onto ours are both 60-70ft long). We've got a vase of flowers and a potted plant on the windowsill.

It's a very normal thing to do. It's less fussy looking but can be colder. I think it depends on the style of your house a lot.

My kitchen diner has no window treatments at all.

We don't have any window coverings on the ground floor windows. Big sliding doors in kitchen which have one neighbour's window looking on but it's their attic room.. I like it...we have lots of plants inside and outside.

In dining room and sitting room we have big bay windows, they can be dark rooms and putting in curtains or blinds would be akward anyway. I use plants on a table in front of one window....but in reality no one can see in unless they come right up the path.

I don't think it looks bare. But it would probably be warmer in winter with curtains!

I had bare windows in the kitchen for a while (floor to ceiling window plus Bifolds). Aesthetically it looked good but temperature wise, not so much- cold in winter, sauna in summer. I ended up having some electric roller blinds put in.

No window dressings in dining room or kitchen here. We aren't overlooked and I prefer to look at the view plus the windows aren't massive so didn't want anything that cut out any light.

Tbh we never close curtains in any room unless it's really really beast from the east type cold.

My curtains fell down months ago . I have floor to ceiling windows and patio doors . I'm very over looked people can look into my living room.

CoolSummerDays · 10/08/2024 21:33

Nothing in our kitchen. Every now and then I think it would look better with blinds, but I hate how greasy they get.

OctoblocksAssemble · 10/08/2024 21:36

I didn't have a blind on my North facing kitchen window in my last house. That was absolutely fine. I do have a blind in my current southwest facing kitchen dinner window, because otherwise twice a year the setting sun will blind/roast us at dinner time (the rest of the year it sets before or after dinner). So, consider your orientation.

Ours is bare too, there were blinds up (left from previous occupier) which we never ever used so recently took them down. It's a new build though so really warm, in an older house I think blinds or curtains help hold in heat.

Qwertying · 11/08/2024 18:57

We have nothing on the kitchen window as it's facing the back garden and no one can see in. Living room back window isn't overlooked either however we decided to put venetians to match the front window - otherwise it would look a bit weird as both windows are opposite each other iyswim

Truetoself · 11/08/2024 19:11

The only windows we cover in our house are in the bedrooms. We do have blinds for the dining room but have never put them down

Misthios · 11/08/2024 19:13

Our kitchen is at the back of the house, behind us is a field. We don't have anything at the kitchen window (and never have) and nothing at the patio doors. Directly above the kitchen is a bathroom - obviously there's frosted glass in the window, but no blinds or anything there either.

Ponkpinkpink15 · 11/08/2024 19:30

No I don't.

I would like some for the large living room this winter, to keep the heat in, but I actually prefer it (looks wise) without.

it's an awkward bloody window (a side window each side, a large pane of glass in the middle and a weird height, with a radiator under it.

A Roman blind would probably be the best option, but I feel that if it's inside frame when it's pulled up, it takes up too much of the window (light). If I put it above the frame it'll look really top heavy on the wall.

curtains I'd quite like the cosy feel, I'd be happy with eyelets on a pole (I know many consider that a bit dated now, but I still like them) but it's what length to go for. I think short ones look like bedroom curtains & long ones would cover the large (& only) radiator in the room!

blinds (white fake wood) would still take up a chunk of the window when pulled up & id want them pulled up because I like as much light in as possible (and just 'open' isn't enough for me.

hence the windows still being bare... all suggestions welcome.

Yes and it's awful. I can't sleep.

MumofSpud · 11/08/2024 23:25

I have just moved and have all bare windows until blinds are fitted soon - neighbours aren't very near but I keep forgetting and wandering about not completely dressed! Blush
