Having a wood kitchen painted

Comments please.

It's a light wood (real wood) and fitted by J Lewis. But it looks dated and I don't like it.

I can't get my head round how a company would paint it!

For example, there are wood panels either side of the cooker hood and the sides of cupboards butting up against granite worktops. The fridge freezer is built in and the 'long side' of the unit joins a worktop.

I've read that companies take away the doors etc to spray them but looking at my kitchen the whole thing would need removing and what happens to the sealant where units join worktops?

It was expensive and I can' t bear the thought of it being ruined.

We had our oak Wickes kitchen painted a couple of years ago. The guy did a great job. He removed the doors and drawer fronts and taped over the insides of the cupboards and around everything else and sprayed them in situ. Took about a week in all and the kitchen was sealed off for about three days whilst he sprayed. We’ve been really pleased with it

Thank you! It looks lovely.

You see, I've got units either side of my cooker - wall and base - and the wall units butt right up to the cooker hood.

My units go right up to the ceiling- no gap.

I've also got a matching utility room.

We had our kitchen hand painted in situ and very happy with it

Ask J Lewis they may have some one they recommend I know Tom Howley does. The person just specialising in repainting those kitchens.

We had our whole kitchen sprayed. They took away the doors initially. Then it was a 2 day job to spray the fixed units. They pulled the oven out so that the sides of the units could be sprayed. It cost about £3k I think, around 2019. The result was very professional job, looked like a brand new kitchen.

We had our kitchen hand painted 15 years ago. A couple of the units could now benefit from being touched up, but I doubt that visitors notice.

I think they had 4 coats - the units were supplied and fitted primed.

The only paint "gap" we have is max 2mm between the two ovens stacked vertically.

The biggest issue with painting over finished wood is probably making sure they are free of grease/dirt.
