Front door colour help

Hello! We're getting a new front door. We don't need new windows as these were all replaced by the previous owners. The existing window frames are Rosewood, the drainpipe is brown, fascias/soffits are brown...you get the picture.

We had an at home appointment and have picked a door and paid a deposit. The rep said we could go to the showroom at any point to view the door in person, which we stupidly did and have now been thrown on colour.

Provisionally we've ordered the door in Rosewood, but have seen the colour on the attached pic on a different door. Issue is the frame would apparently have to be a standard colour, ie Rosewood, black or white. The online design a door thing doesn't have the colour on yet as it's relatively new, and the samples aren't arriving until mid next week which is after our order will be finalised, so all we've got to go on is a little square in a brochure which is of zero use.

Speaking to a rep they said they've not had anyone order a Rosewood frame with a non-Rosewood coloured door (v conscious of how many times I've said the R word). They said an option could be to have the frame in white and the new colour door as apparently a white frame with a non-white door is a popular combo, or do all Rosewood.

The surveyor is coming in a couple of days where he'll send a report over with measurements and confirming our final options, so we need to make a decision! Should we do:

1. White frame, new colour door

  1. Rosewood frame, new colour door
  2. Stick, don't twist: brown everything

I'm not sold on option 1 as I think this will look silly with having 2 different coloured frames; it would've been fine if we had white frames already/everything else wasn't brown.

Option 2 would be a couple of hundred quid more expensive which whilst we can afford, if it doesn't work with the Rosewood frame then we'll be painting it and it would've been money for nothing.

Option 3 I suppose we could at least paint it after a bit, but just seems a bit of a shame to be paying a chunk to not have got the 'right' colour on ordering.

Anyway sorry for rambling, any thoughts on if the attached colour would work in a Rosewood frame/existing windows, or should we just stick with what we were going to have, would be much appreciated.

Thank you 🤎

I would probably get a black door with a black frame. I would cry having to fork out ££ for a rosewood door even though it matched everything else.

Rose wood is so dated now, I’d not do that, I’d actually consider painting the frames out and picking the door I liked.

A rosewood frame with be fine with that door and definitely better than a rosewood door.

A friend had her rosewood upvc window frames spray painted grey. It looks great, but she didn’t have the full drain pipes etc situation that you have…

Do the rosewood window frames work well with your exterior? If they go well with your brick/stone then stick with the rosewood for the frame and pink for the door.

If you don’t like the windows, don’t pay good money for a door/frame in a colour you don’t like. I’d ask if there is an extra charge to colour match the door and frame and if it’s not possible, try another door company as I’m sure I’ve seen some that do the same colour for both.

Thank you - I think we'd be able to get the colour matched at B&Q for the frame! (Then part of me is like should we just save a couple of hundred and get it in what we've gone for and paint the whole thing ourselves...)

Thank you - we're definitely going to go with the new colour!

It is literally EVERYWHERE. We've had a couple of quotes for spraying and it'd be £1.5k - 1.8k plus VAT 🫣

Thanks so much for this. In fairness they do work with the house and don't look out of place; the only slight quirk is that we're 1 of 4 houses in our little square and everyone else has white windows but even with that it's not a 'LOOK AT THE BROWN HOUSE' as they all work as they are (two have white doors, the other one has a pillar box red door).

The surveyor is coming first thing Monday so I'll do a little scouting around just to see if there are any other local companies who can do colour matching of the frame - we'd picked this company as we know 2 separate people (one of which is close family) who have used them and the work is excellent and competitively priced, but it would be nice not to have to mess around sorting the frame afterwards!

Thank you ☺️
