How to divide a double room? Boy and girl?

What would you buy or do to divide a double room?
It's 12"4 x 6"11 has a walk in wardrobe.

Or the other room is 12"4 x 8"11.

But think the smaller room that has walk in wardrobe would be better as it means no furniture needed other then bed and toys?

How could we do it? What would you do?

Something like this might be good, use the smaller room in the short term

I would not divide at all until the older child is at least 5 years old. Then reconsider.

Agree.
And nothing that can be climbed up and pulled over.

They are little so presumably all play is done downstairs with parents in living room, so they only need the bedroom for sleep and clothes?

In bedroom 2 (with the built in cupboard),
2 beds, one against each wall with head against the window wall (pink/blue)
Bookshelves/other storage along the opposite wall (green).

Why not paint it yellow, and accessorise with removable stickers? Yellow is a 'gender-neutral' colour and it means room can be rearranged as and when without attributing colours to each child.

JaninaDuszejko · 17/07/2024 15:42

Don't divide the room yet. Small kids love sharing. All three of mine shared when they were little, my teenage daughters still share (and we have a big house). You're fine until the older child gets to puberty then you can think about dividing it.

JaninaDuszejko · 17/07/2024 15:45

Oh,and decoration wise when they all shared the walls were brilliant white (easy to paint over 'artwork'), fabric was a mix of brights and the toys provided lots of colour.

KintheCottage · 17/07/2024 15:51

I wouldn’t divide it yet, they’re still so little. Wait until they’re a bit older and want to stop sharing and then divide it.

Another2Cats · 17/07/2024 16:06

As others have said, don't worry about it right now. When they do get older I remember reading about a bedroom being split in two with the use of bunk beds as part of the dividing wall to create a bit more floorspace.

Thank you 😊 really reassuring, I was worried it was poor of me to have them share.

I love the idea of yellow and maybe a farm or woodland animal theme? Then when older do the bunk bed divider idea and they can decorate their own area to their taste?

What age do children go into bunk beds??

BurbageBrook · 17/07/2024 16:11

It's fine for little ones to share! Once they are school age maybe think about dividing it.

TeenToTwenties · 17/07/2024 19:46

Bunk beds I think they say from 6 to be safe. I would have thought definitely not before 4 but it will depend on motor skills and common sense.

It is harder changing sheets on a high bed. Have them in toddler size beds as long as you can get away with it. (DD is petite and was in her until 6y9mnth but that is probably unusual!

Geneticsbunny · 18/07/2024 07:28

Toddler sized beds are not needed. Kids can gonstraigh from cots into single beds and they are great because you can sit in the bed to read to them/ /fall asleep whilst putting them to bed/.

Geneticsbunny · 18/07/2024 07:30

Or I have just remembered that bunk beds come apart to separate beds so you could just buy bunk beds straight away.

Agree, though toddler sized beds take up less room if space is at a premium. However thus is potentially buying twice, but so would single beds moving to bunk beds. Could buy bunk beds that dismantle to single beds maybe?

londonmummy1966 · 18/07/2024 14:59

You can get beds that extend and retract from full size single to toddler etc - quite useful if the room is small. IKEA do several.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 21/07/2024 13:56

I wouldn't divide it just now. My two had separate rooms but slept in the same bed for most of their childhood.

Rainbowsponge · 21/07/2024 13:59

I’m not sure you can really, it’s just too small OP. Just have them share for now and look to upsize in a few years as it looks very over crowded
