This area of home has a tendency to become a bit of a dumping ground and it drives me bonkers, I think it needs the back wall decorating. at the moment the whole room kitchen included is just plain white and I think the wall where the tv is needs wallpaper or something. What would you do with it?

It becomes a bit of a dumping ground because it's a bit blah and I'm hoping if it's a bit more more wow I'll want to keep it that way

the kitchen in behind where I'm stood taking this and is the same as the back cabinets.

What would you do with this?

That looks lovely OP. I agree with the suggestion to paint the wall a colour from the painting. I'd also change the lampshade to something colourful - maybe a deep purple. or replace the entire lamp with something more colourful.

Get rid of the TV
Get rid of the shelf
Make dining the feature for the space

The table it's self is the Bain of my life, I've always had second hand or cheapish dining sets but when we did the house up I thought I'd splurge and get something really nice, we went to ikea and I fell in love with a display they had which was those chairs and a white table. The table in Ikea was too small for what we needed so I got the chairs from ikea which were £75 each at the time I think they're more now, but hard plastic with kids is a good bet I think, and I got the table from a place called sklum I can remember the exact price but it was a lot. We've had it 2 years and I've had to repaint it twice, it had a wax film on the top and I cleaned it with normal surface cleaner and it came off leaving big grey smudges on it . So me and this dining room have a love hate relationship, the first scratch in the floor was in there too. So we've got issues 😂

The picture looks good. I'd not just paint the back wall but take the paint around the corner as for as the door on the right of the picture and the radiator on the left. Could you also paint the base units in the same colour? Makes it look more like a dining area than a feature wall. A toning table runner and seat pads on the chairs would be good too. Plus a rug under the dining table that is large enough forr the chairs to fit on too. A lampshade like this would work too https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1206058820/voyage-maison-varys-violet-thistle-drum?click_key=8aef4ed83d1f1410957f7dc98d85b18ebf5b3c87%3A1206058820&click_sum=a1aeb72e&external=1&rec_type=ss&ref=pla_similar_listing_top-7

Those cupboards where only put in in September 2022 I think my partner would run away with the circus if I suggested painting them 😂😂😂

I said a few weeks ago that I kind of regretted not getting the navy blue kitchen and I got a serious side eye 😅

There’s nothing wrong with that space. It’s calm and peaceful.

toenails · 18/07/2024 21:26

That's a lovely space, OP. Personally instead of the objects on the shelf I'd go for several plants, grouped either side of the TV. They can transform a room. Of course I see that you have family photos there at the moment, but there'll be other places you could put those.

But it's up to you! It already looks very nice.

Userxyd · 20/07/2024 08:11

I think it all looks lovely OP! So serene and calm which is a rare treat in a kitchen- ours is permanently mess and chaos!
How about you "lean in" to the calm vibe and try a pale grey and white patterned paper on both walls of the corner, or you could hang a gallery wall of black and white photos instead of the two squiggle pictures? Maybe with the odd colourful frame to break it up?
Or for less effort just keep the tv picture and add a few pictures on the side wall that match those colours? Maybe a new table runner too?
I love the table and chairs - really nice designs 😍

Here are a couple of pictures which might help to give an idea.

She just had this wallpaper installed in a small area above some panelling and it's gorgeous but brightens up greige decorating:

Has so many lovely comments about it already

crackfoxy · 20/07/2024 09:41

I'd put some chunky shelves either side of the tv for all the bits on the top. Then use the top of the units for kitchen things to bring it together - fruit basket etc

trickyex · 20/07/2024 09:56

I would change the TV for a round mirror, add a vase of flowers or plants and perhaps a fruit bowl or other wooden things to add some softness and texture.
SOme good examples here.

Wallpaper won’t stop people dumping their shit there, you’ll just be creating a prettier dumping ground. Like a previous poster said, you need to look at what’s being dumped and create a home for it.

KnickerlessParsons · 20/07/2024 10:26

I'd replace the TV with a whacking big, brightly coloured canvas and buy some indoor plants.
