Wrong patterned flooring in small bathroom?

We are replacing our bathroom floor and I love these Harvey Maria tiles. Unusually, we have a family consensus. And I understood a pattern can create the sense of more space.

But it really is a small bathroom - the flooring area is less than 2m squared - will these tiles make it look smaller? Are they too busy?

I'd say go for it. I think they'd be fine in a small space.

ShrubRose · 12/07/2024 14:55

If you like them, get them!

Personally, I find that the intensity of the pattern draws the eye down, so I don't think it would make a room look larger. But it's a question of preference, really.

No, in a very small space the pattern will drive you mad, because small spaces need less detail.

So, in a large bathroom, the floor coverings with loads of detail, such as in the image you uploaded would look good.

The same also applies to wallpaper, massive flower wallpaper in tiny rooms is also what my neighbours would have in their homes .....haha but is not to the taste of most people!

Get a sample.

i thought i liked Harvey Maria but all the samples I ordered looked awful. So so cheap
i was really disappointed

edit I actually think the pattern is fine for a small space especially if you do the walls in the green. Would look cool with gold hardware and taps

CultOfTheAirFryer · 12/07/2024 15:30

Very chic. I think they’ll be just fine.

HousePlans · 12/07/2024 15:58

I've had similar in my recently done teeny tiny bathroom and love it. It's a bright room and I used very big white wall tiles in shower cubicle so that there's less busy-ness on those walls and painted the other walls a light-ish sage green to keep it all nice and bright.

Lotscanchange · 12/07/2024 18:15

I’ve got samples - I’ve ordered more in different colours

I don’t want to spend loads of money and then hate it

the walls and tiles are all white - birch cupboard. Only floor is being replaced

I like dramatic tiles/paint/wallpaper in a smaller room, it add interest and depth. I find they're actually harder to pull off in a larger room as it can all get a bit too intense.

I think it would make your bathroom very luxurious, but I paint the walls a complementary moody colour.

Lotscanchange · 15/07/2024 13:49

So here is a bigger sample of the tile against our existing bath panel tiles - they are white 20 x 20. That is the width of the floor tile but it’s not the complete square (half I believe)

Does the sizing clash?

I’d say yes, the sizing does clash! They’re beautiful tiles, just the wrong size.

Soontobe60 · 15/07/2024 13:55

How about these?

Oops forgot the photo!

This would be much better with those wall tiles

My daughter has used the same design in their slate colour way in her similarly sized bathroom (and kitchen). She worried that it would be too busy in a relatively small area, but it works really well. She did find the samples really poor quality and badly sized to really get a feel for the floor. What was useful however was to find a local stockist and 'borrow' their store sample which was approx 1m x 0.5m. and took that home to get a better feel for the scale and intensity of the design in her space.

Yes, I got that size sample. I think it would work really well but for the size of the existing wall tiles which jar with it

Absolutely nothing, yours in beautiful.

I've already posted that I think busy patterns look much better in a smaller room.

I thought @MrsWimpy asked what was wrong with it for some reason!

ByLoudSeal · 19/07/2024 11:49

Go for a light wood coloured floor

sunlovingcriminal · 19/07/2024 11:58

We have a patterned floor in our loo and separate bathroom. Both small rooms but we like it. (And don't want combined bathrooms) as we have three teens- so having them separated suits us!

I think the sizes do clash too much and also the white. It looks like the wall tiles are bright white but the white in the floor tiles are more off-white.
