Soft white kitchen

Hello, we're doing our kitchen and have settled on design and style but struggling to settle on the final colours.

The vibe I have in mind is simple, timeless and calming off white / soft white / warm white (not cream) with white quartz. But I'm struggling with whether I go brighter white worktops for contrast or softer, or marbled....or plain!

Does anyone have a similar style and could share for inspiration? Neutrals are so hard as they so different in different lights.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Photo of design and scheme. Thank you.

Go to Homebase and get one of their colour card sheets?

MumoftwoGranofone · 11/07/2024 21:46

I love Dulux Timeless …

Kitcheninspo123 · 11/07/2024 21:48

@MumoftwoGranofone me too for walls. A lot of our house is Timeless.

It's more the worktop / cabinet whites I'm struggling with 😊

If I were you I’d decide on the worktops and go from there - cabinet colours are more flexible.

think about maintenance/ cleaning. Are you a very clean person? Are pure white worktops likely to get stained? What sort of cooking do you do - lots of tomato or turmeric ? See crumb marks? Would a patterned/ marbled be better and more forgiving?

what company are doing your worktops? You’ll likely have less options once you narrow down what companies you like. Then go from there.

Kitcheninspo123 · 11/07/2024 21:57

@Wentie I've kind of done the opposite! Chosen a small local firm who are competitive, and they only had one option in white in the cabinet we chose (also doge grey which I kind of like)

So I found that easier enough to decide. Just can't decide how to pair a worktop. Such a big expense without seeing it properly before.

Was hoping to see some white kitchen with white worktop inspo to see different shades together 😊

I’d order samples of different worktops online and see which you like the best, and ask the company for a sample of the door.

i guess it depends on if the cupboards are brilliant / pure white, what undertones they have (eg yellow? Grey?) and what the light in your kitchen is (north facing / south facing)

there’s not much point looking at inspo photos online as it will look completely different once it’s in your own home due to the lighting.

Kitcheninspo123 · 11/07/2024 22:12

@Wentie thank you. I have some samples. I know you're right, I just thought seeing a finished article might help me visualise what I'm looking for.

All the showrooms are full of coloured kitchens so I've not seen many white kitchens. I'm sure 'different tones of white' would work but struggling to settle on the right tones.

I had a thread about a similar dilemma a few days ago. You can find loads of images of all-white kitchens on Pinterest but I think you need to see a cupboard door from your supplier alongside a worktop to make a final choice. I had an idea of the worktop I wanted but changed my mind when I saw it in real life at the showroom - the one I thought I liked from the samples was too grey when we set it against the doors we chose so we ended up with a different one. We wanted a pattern/marble effect rather than plain white so crumbs don't show up as much and to bring a bit of warmth into the scheme.

ShrubRose · 11/07/2024 22:32

What material have you chosen for your worktops, OP?

Kitcheninspo123 · 11/07/2024 23:15

We're looking at quartz. We've had oak for 13 years and done pretty well with it, but I like how hassle free quartz is

Yes, quartz is good.

I'm not sure from your post what colour your cabinets will be -
they only had one option in white in the cabinet we chose (also doge grey)

Are the cabinets going to be white?

If the cabinets are in a white with a grey undertone, I would love a marble-patterned quartz with a light grey vein. I wouldn't go brighter - some white kitchens can look a bit like a lab, and I think marble gives a warm, elegant texture.

Fun project! 😊

Kitcheninspo123 · 12/07/2024 07:16

@ShrubRose sorry I wasn't very clear. I've chosen a company who are recommended locally. They only do a small selection so narrowed it down to a particular door. The door only comes in 4 shades, two are not what I'm after and then there is 'porcelain' or 'dove grey'.

Porcelain is the only 'white' option which I was fine with, it's a soft, chalky white. However, when I pair with white quartz - especially if it has any grey in it (marbling etc) it makes the door seem more yellow. I definitely don't want yellowy cream!

I think I might have to look at other companies ranges

My kitchen is porcelain white, with timeless painted walls, the tiles are the same porcelain colour too. I went for a contrast worktop which was called brushed steel. You never really know how it will look from samples, but I am pleased with mine

@ragdoll12345 that looks great! It's so hard isn't it? Ours is going in an open plan space with a sofa area so I really feel I want light - but it's a big expense to get wrong!
