A boring radiator question

I live in a flat and the lounge and kitchen are combined. It is quite a spacious room but the focal point of the lounge area is an ugly radiator which is over two metres long! The room is an odd shape and I can't configure the sofas/tv in such a way as to hide the radiator. I would like to replace it with another that's half the size. Is this doable and, if so, would it be expensive and involve changing pipes etc? I have no clue!

Doable, probably. But it's a PITA job as they have to drain the whole system and will have to move pipes.

We totally changed location of two of ours last year, but it involved floorboards coming up and drilling up part of a concrete floor (kitchen extension) as well as plumbing. Not a DIY job. We changed to vertical ones to save space and they look good too. You need to calculate the sizes you need based on room size and layout, radiator websites usually have tools for this.

Hmm as I suspected. Thanks for replying!

If you don't mind the pipes running above the floor for a bit then it may not be that disruptive. And if you have carpet and floorboards then it isn't all that disruptive to move pipes.

Is it a single radiator? You need to make sure the replacement smaller one is powerful enough for the room.

It's not that much of a PITA, as long as you put the new radiator somewhere close to where there pipes already.
Eg
•ok if you keep it on the same wall but move it over a bit, or replace with a vertical (which I recommend)
•ok if you move it to a new wall if there are pipes to a radiator on the other side
•not ok if you want to put a new radiator on a wall where there's absolutely no piping.
