Which kitchen worktop resistant to curry stains?

I'm thinking quartz, the fabricated stone one, seems best.

We have a dark kitchen so I need to bring in as much light as possible.

I would appreciate any advice 🙏

We have white slightly sparkly silestone. Curry stains come out with Cif. Treat them asap but never had a problem

Theothername · 03/07/2024 17:20

Silestone.

wildfellhall · 03/07/2024 17:23

Thank you! I would love to go quite light. What colour are your cabinets? If you don't mind my asking?

I've had three different designers...
(Whispers.... the women are amazing I wonder why 😁)

I mean the room doesn't get tons of light. I'm hoping to choose light cabinets but not pure white.

I have grey /white mottled quartz.
Turmeric and red wine respond well to timely application of high alcohol hand sanitiser!
Its been in place for over 4 years and no permanent stains.

Thanks, that's good to know, this a very curry kitchen...

We have white acrylic composite and bleach spray will get up any curry stain, so I wouldn't worry 😊 It's not porous like stone though so I don't know if that would work on quartz

Dartwarbler · 03/07/2024 17:36

Laminate?
really, you can throw bleach on it, or scrub.

and you save yourself all that time having to buff up to high non smearing shine

inherited a kitchen with granite once. Don’t get it. High maintenance. There’s a reason we stopped using stone and wood worktops and people invented Formica 🙄😱🫣🤣🤣

just like there’s a reason people stopped using fixed overhead shower buckets and invented flexible shower hoses

or stopped using Belfast sinks (stinks 🙄🤣🤣) and went for top inserted ones

etc etc

Too many trends are marketing gimmicks to make us feel like we have to replace bathroom and kitchens frequently. But we do seem to be going backwards in terms of functionality, hygiene and durability

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 03/07/2024 17:38

i have cream quartz- bleach spray does the job. 10 yrs now. Lots of curry, red wine and beetroot Grin

minipie · 03/07/2024 17:39

Porcelain or Dekton or glass will be the most stain resistant

Granite probably next

Quartz next , but a big variation between brands

mitogoshi · 03/07/2024 17:41

Nothing light, we had a composite white stone effect and turmeric was very hard to get off. I how have dark grey, far better!

leli · 03/07/2024 17:48

I have whit quartz. To bring in light to a dark kitchen. I love it. Bar keepers friend spray works for me.

Cabinets are grey green so light and we have an oak laminate floor. North facing kitchen so wanted light.

I have white marble quartz, if I get curry or red wine stains I spray with Flash Spray Wipe Done and it wipes clean leaving no marks.

greengreyblue · 03/07/2024 18:58

We have white quartz. I’m careful but haven’t had a permanent stain and I cook with turmeric regularly. I keep a pot of Barkeeper’s Friend handy.

RusticChips · 03/07/2024 19:06

This is ours I cook a lot of curry's.

I have white Quartz. Haldi / red chilli / mango stains come off nicely with a bit of Elbow Grease. But I do wipe up immediately. If you’re not the type it might be a good idea to get a board the same length and marble as the counter and just replace that when it gets stains.

wildfellhall · 03/07/2024 23:05

Thank you all. Pretty kitchen rustic 🥰

We have fugen irini worktops. They've coped well with current and red wine.

Theothername · 04/07/2024 20:48

@Dartwarbler strongly agree with you that laminate counters and stainless steel top inserted sinks are unbeatable. I love my Belfast sink and silestone worktop but they have made my life harder.

Ha! But my pet hate is rain head showers….work off the devil! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Caspianberg · 05/07/2024 05:22

We have ceramic worktop. It’s fully white. No stains. You don’t even have to scrub or add any chemicals to wipe. Have ceramic under mount sink also so they flow seamlessly.
we have oak lower cabinets, white upper. And one 3m floor to ceiling area in dark blue shaker

Caspianberg · 05/07/2024 05:24

I think in the uk, ceramic worktops are often called Dekton.
ours wasn’t cheap, about the price of quartz, but much more robust

Dekton stainproof. Love it.
