New wooden built ins - do I paint inside?

We've installed wooden built in cupboards, this weekend my job is to prime and paint them. However, I've only really thought about the outside. Planning to paint them the same colour as the wall so they all blend in. But what do you do with the inside, does that all get painted the same colour as well? Or just leave it wooden? I've never snooped into peoples cupboards so it's never occurred to me what happens on the inside of doors!

Any advice/photos welcome.

Thanks

Paint it whatever you like. I have always liked the idea of doing something a bit bonkers like bright yellow so it makes me smile when I open the cupboard but I have never got round to actually doing it.

How well finished is the wood inside? Nicely smooth?
I think you can do either really. Also people used to use 'lining paper' in drawers and cupboards, especially if they were going to be used for clothes or linens. That's just loose paper on the bottom of drawers and shelves.

I think if the finish inside them was good I'd be tempted not to paint them (saves a job) but I might use lining paper. Stops delicate fabrics catching if there is a splinter of wood.
Just my thoughts!

I’ve just had some built as well and was debating the same thing. Ours are mdf and carpenter said they don’t need painting inside so we’ve decided not to to save a (big) job. But if we were going to I’d be tempted to paint them a contrasting colour to the outside. Maybe a bright yellow or orange, similar to the raw mdf colour so any scratches from pulling things in/out the cupboard don’t immediately show.

Some things stick to paint and the paint comes off when you remove them.

Plastic files, plastic bags etc can react with paint.

Yes you paint the inside.

If it’s nice wood then leave it

If it’s basic pine or similar I’d paint it, a contrasting or fun colour

Hadn't thought about a contrasting colour! This has opened a whole new world of possibilities.

It's very nice wood, I can't remember what wood exactly, but if it wasn't in the kids room I'd be tempted to just varnish it and leave it otherwise in all it's naked glory. But, it's about to become a vibrant feature wall. Good option B I'd say!!

Now to consider contrasting colours....

I’ve got a carpenter here now building a cupboard and wondered the same thing. I love the idea of a bright inside, a bit cheesy, but in a good way.

I bought a couple of rolls of Scion wallpaper in bonkers designs (think they were a fiver each in their sale) and I’m going to paper the back wall of a couple of built in wardrobes I’m sorting out.

Oooo!!! Nice! Yeah the insides of both cupboards is a mess tbh. I think I just meant the back of the door initially but this thread has made me think about the shelves/wall etc. Think for this weekend I'm going to do the outside and consider the rest at a later point.

Can you post a photo?
Is the wood sealed?

This is one of those classic times where I realise I forgot the before shot!

Here's the after/ during! Just started the insides of the cupboards.
