Painting on new plaster help

We have a small porch - recently replastered. The plaster is now dry and I want it painted with Dulux Emerald Glade Matt. We painted our downstairs loo in this - it’s lovely and we have lots left.
Plasterer says that we need to paint it white for a few months before putting coloured paint on the plaster, and as he doesn’t like the green has said that he would leave it white. (!)
A different decorator painted the downstairs loo on top of new plaster straight away. Husband thinks the green is too dark for our porch and is happily taking the plasterer/decorator’s advice. Porch has a window, a front door with a window and an entrance door with a window….so not dark.
Stand off developing. Is it usual to paint new plaster white for a few months, or is it actually ok to paint colour on as a first coat?
Any advice from decorators gladly received!

Colour is irrelevant. New plaster needs to dry thoroughly to full depth.

When dry it is very absorbent, so it is normal to mix a watered down cheap emulsion - builders basic white - with some water, and paint it with that first. That will seal the surface. Wait for that to dry and then paint it any colour you like.

Or your dh likes........

Leave it to dry for a week then do a single mist coat with watered down white paint. It's nothing to do with the plasterer what colour it is!

Thank you both for your help.
Really useful and informative.

Yes colour irrelevant. Essential to do a mist coat first on new plaster which is watered down paint (use cheap white emulsion). Then use your colour choice ontop of this. Plaster well dried first.

If you don't do this the paint will not adhere to the plaster and peel off and need to be redone
