Nets/Voiles + roller blind + curtains?

I know this sounds like overkill, but I'm a bit stuck. I have recently had my bedroom done - I love it (it's not for everyone, but it suits me). I have to have a voile curtain for privacy, and I chose a blackout curtain because of the morning sun.

The Curtain Lady advised having a curtain rail as close to the wall as possible with taller than usual pencil pleat curtain tape and longer than the window sill. It is mostly ok, but sometimes the sun comes through at the sides (width of curtain rail was limited) and the top and bottom. So I wondered if I could also have a roller blind as well as my voile curtain and blackout curtains?

Has anyone done this? If so, does the roller blind go in front of the voile or vice versa?

Never seen or done that but the roller blinds may let light escape

The best way to block light and it looks good is to have the curtain rails rounding about 9 inches past the windows if feasible

Roller blind seems the best solution for you IMO

A cassette blind with side channels like those from Bloc blinds would put the room into complete darkness, no light because of those side channels.

We actually have a horizontal Venetian blind in our south facing bedroom with a blackout roller blind in front of it and black out curtains. As light still filters in from the sides of both blinds (curtains are eyelets though) we are ordering a Bloc cassette blind to replace the roller blind.

We are also putting a screen roller blind behind the Venetian (that is not being touched and will remain in its current position) the screen blind means I can have the windows open wide and the screen roller blind with side channels keeps all the insects out.

I think in your case I might put the roller blind against the window as it will help with heat retention in winter then the voile in front.

Thanks for your replies! I know it sounds odd, but I don't think I want a blackout blind as I do have blackout curtains - I want to draw the blind sometimes during the day when I'm in there so that the sun doesn't dazzle but I'm not in complete darkness. I was just hoping that maybe the blind would take the edge off the daylight seeping round the edges of the curtains.

It's interesting you suggest the blind right against the window - I guess I would still have access to the chain thing then, also would be easier to get the net curtain down to wash it I suppose. I'm just wondering if it would look odd from the outside, but then, it doesn't really matter if it does I guess.

Anyway, thanks for your time and suggestions.

I'd do windows, black-out roller bind, violes, and curtains with black-out lining. I would not get a non-black-out blind as you already have curtains and voiles to diffuse the sun and give you privacy. We have linen voiles and curtains with black-out liners. We can't fit rollers because of the shape of the window frame but if we could I would!

Thanks for your reply @Photoontheshelf! I don't think I would want a black out blind as during the day I would like to block out the strong sunlight but not have the room pitch black. You sound as if you have the same as me - voiles (don't think they're linen though, just a bit cottony) and curtains with a black out lining. It's around the edges that's the problem.

So I have shutters, voiles & black out curtains & still some light manages to sneak through, luckily I had about 2 months in the spare room with no curtains while we decorated so I've sort of got used to sleeping with some light! Not helpful I know if you need pitch black.
We also have to have the door open for the cats - whole other thread!

My voiles do a pretty good job of muting direct sunlight during the day though!

Dunelm have a roller blind that has a blackout part and a light filtering voile blind combined.

My plan is to switch to a double roller blind with a decorative (or black out) set of curtains in front of it.

Double blind like these

We currently have voils and black out curtains, and in summer it really doesn't do anything to keep the room properly dark.

I have this set up OP, the blackout roller blind is the closest to the window to block out as much light as possible, then the voiles, then the curtains. The blackout roller blind is inside the window recess, the same colour as the walls to make it unobtrusive. You want the blackout roller blind to wind away from you, so it’s as close to the glass as possible. I had the roller blinds fitted after the voiles and curtains as it wasn’t dark enough for me. It has made a huge difference but light still leaks through if I’m honest. I used to have a blackout roller blind, then a sheer roller blind for privacy, both fitted inside the window recess, and then a blackout Roman blind fitted outside the window recess and that was amazing in terms of blocking out the light.
