How do I know if my sofa has been chemically treated ?

Silly question but got a new sofa and it stinks of chemicals but I’m not sure if it’s just new sofa smell or not . It has this label on it and I’m wondering if that means it’s fire retardant treated or the fabric is not treated with chemicals but meets fire standards ? Anyone know ?? Have a 7 month old dd and worried it will affect mine and her health as I hear it’s toxic

I believe all sofas are fire treated in this country, unless it’s wool which is naturally retardant

There are a lot more things in this world to worry about than a sofa being treated with maybe 'toxic' chemicals.

We have lived for years with things considered harmful to health such as asbestos ceilings, lead pipes, lead paint and we are all fine. Open a window.

New sofas and things do smell. They've been wrapped in plastic for ages to protect them so any smells get trapped.

It will dissipate eventually, just open a window

this happened to me when I bought a loaf sofa. The smell was so overpowering.

After a couple of weeks the smell was as strong as ever and I couldn’t bear being in the same room as it. Loaf sent out someone to inspect it and they agreed that it wasn’t as it should be.

loaf replaced the sofa with no quibbles.

OP if it still smells in a couple of weeks then speak to whoever you bought it from.

And anyone who doesn’t think chemicals used in fire retardants aren’t an issue to health, read up on PFAS chemicals.

And I have to disagree with this. There are far more cases of cancer than ever before and it’s not just a case of better detection. This is an accepted fact in the medical community.
