And how did they fair?

I'm in a council property and due a new kitchen but it's been delayed due to covid apparently.

My kitchen is so dated and honestly makes me feel depressed! I think the big problem with the worktops. They are dark brown and black speckles. I'm just considering what I can do to give them some life and thought what about painting them?

They are just standard worktops...

Any experience?

I don’t think paint will last long, worktops take the brunt of kitchen prep. I have seen vinyl roll specifically for worktops, like sticky back plastic. Let me have a hunt through Instagram, I think I follow them…..

Jesrose Vinyl is the company I was thinking of. They do tiles and vinyl sheet. Lots of helpful how to videos. I have to admit I’ve not tried their products, they get great reviews.

I’ve vinyl wrapped mine as a short term fix until we can replace the kitchen, to be fair they’ve held up pretty well - I just bought the vinyl from Amazon and used a sharp Stanley knife to cut the joins.

Yep I agree with vinyl wrap , I used DC-fix make sure you get the self adhesive, not the static one.
It's fairly forgiving and can be lifted and repositioned quit a few times , just don't let it stick to its self.
Scrub your worktops very well then wipe over with a alcohol based cleaner .
Also if you have any metal ends take them off and make sure things like fridge freezers are out of the way so you can get to the ends properly.

Special plastic cards can be bought from dc-fix or use something like a credit card to help smooth the wrap into place and eliminate air bubbles.

Use a VERY sharp blade to cut it , and take your time.

Oh and don't put hot pans on it but mugs and warm plates etc are fine
