Hi
I'm really struggling with deciding on curtains / blinds for my lounge.
We live in an old cottage which has recently been flooded due to broken pipes under the lane alongside our cottage .
We're now in the process of renovations .
We have an old stone fireplace and dark wooden beans . The flooring will be old slate grey flagstones .
Our sofas are a deep cranberry red . We are keeping they were relatively new and will be deep cleaned .
I need ideas on curtains. I had deep green before but felt it didn't particularly work that well.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

What other colours are in the room? Is the rug the cat is lying on staying?

Only thing staying at the moment is the sofas.

I think I would look for a small print in a traditional style that picked up the colour of the sofas. That would give the room a good flow.

Even though the sofas are staying, the colour needs lifting with a throw over the back and/or lighter coloured cushions as tbh they make the room look dark regardless of what curtains you choose

How about a nice red highland check to keep the cottage feel nice and warm feel too . You could go for a warm beige chenille .

If your walls are staying white/cream, I would avoid dark curtains (I’ve just got rid of the same combination and it’s only now it’s gone I realise how old fashioned it looked)

I would, as ShrubRose suggests, go for a small print which picks up on the red but brings the walls and sofas together. Perhaps cream curtains with a tiny red flower. To me, that chimney wall would look great painted a deep red to match the sofas!

Your room has great character and will look great when finished.

I think a warm textured neutral material personally. Either curtains or roman blinds. But it also depends on what style of rugs and cushions you choose as well.

My first thought was a cranberry check, maybe with the fireplace colour, but I really like the Arbuthnot print linked to above, which will pick up the fireplace colour. Def a much larger and plainer, more modern rug. Are you having underfloor heating, because the slate will be very cold.

It all depends on what look you are going for really.

Personally, I would get the TV area at the side of the fireplace plastered flat and paint the wooden top, because it seems to be fighting with the fireplace for attention. I hope you don’t mind me saying that. I know it’s outside of the remit you asked for.

Its obviously a beautiful cottage, and I’m sorry you’ve had water damage, I do know what that’s like, and it takes so long to sort.

I think either plain cream or cream with red checks/flowers/print Roman blinds would look best

Thank you for all your suggestions. Please keep them coming .
I agree we definitely need a much bigger rug and for the tv area to be sorted out !
I think we went for the green floral as it was a contrast to the red & cream cheese kind of we had previously but on reflection the check was probably a better choice .
Please keep the suggestions and possibly links to curtains / prints coming . All suggested appreciated.
