What do you love / hate about your Range Oven?

I am looking to buy a 90cm wide Rangemaster and can't decide between the Elise with 3 ovens and the Classic with one wide oven that can be partitioned into 2 ovens. Would appreciate anyone's experience. I am not a cook so would be used for basic cooking needs!

I've got a range master gas/electric 90cm.

The main oven is brilliant, the side oven I had a little trouble finding dishes etc to fit in, but otherwise it's not failed us in 17 years.

The only drawback if you have a bad back, it's very low down.

Should say ours is the classic, with the 3 ovens.

I loved my range oven because the hob was massive and sturdy and the main oven was brilliant. However, I second that it is a pain in the bum if you get injured at all. Or just get a bit old and creaky! Bending down to get things out means that your knees and back have to be good 😀

We had the Classic 110

Had the classic 90 , note had , our bigger oven was gas , the smaller electric.
Ok for a few years but a pain with how low the oven was.

Then the gas oven kept playing up , took ages to cook anything . had the gas control valve changed , it was ok for another year or two then started to go again. Got rid.

Moved into a house with one.
really difficult to clean. Ovens aren’t great for cooking and they take up a huge area of kitchen.

My mum recommended I get one of the tower ovens to prevent bending. I am in my 50s and don't plan to replace for a couple of decades at least so maybe should bear this in mind. Did see that the tray is attached to the door and pops out which looks handy! I do love the look of the range ovens though so finding it hard not to go this route!

I thought two ovens would be a good idea but in 12 years I just have used it twice. I store pans in it.

I have a 90cm rangemaster professional plus or something. I like the small oven but mainly use it for warming plates on the incredibly helpful rack (Victorian house).

The electric oven is good and I’m very happy with the gas hob, especially the wok burner which I use all the time. It is a pain the keep the hob clean but not so much that I would want to swap for an induction hob. The grill isn’t the best. Its settings are Burn Within 3 Minutes or Don’t Do Anything At All. I don’t often grill things so this doesn’t bother me.

I have a 90cm Rangemaster and love the two ovens. The smaller oven is still a decent size - I previously had a Smeg range and the second oven was really small. The worst bit is the grill - I don't use it much and would prefer to use the space to warm plates!

I've had mine for about 5 years and am generally really happy with it.

We have a rangemaster with 3 ovens. The tall side oven only gets used at Christmas but it's pretty essential that day for all the veg, but I agree that only narrow trays fit it in. I really like the sit on griddle, we use that lots. The grill really annoys me though, it's not deep enough.

nearlyretired · 09/04/2024 12:55

Love my 90cm rangemaster. Re the grill, on mine, you can remove the grill pan and then unclip the metal bit it sits on and then use the space as a plate warmer. It is a pain to clean the ovens but very easy to keep the ceramic hob clean.

Wotchaz · 09/04/2024 12:58

I loved our 90cm range, the side oven was only used for big roasts but the main oven held temperature nicely and the wok burner at the top was used daily. I really miss having 5 hob rings, I run out of space with 4 quite frequently.

I wish the top had a raised back bit like american range cookers do or older ones do. How are you all stopping stuff falling down the back?

The oven is good but as others say the side oven (while good) barely gets used.

How are you all cleaning your ovens? I need motivation/inspiration.

I use that incredibly dangerous chemical you put in a bag to clean the inside of the ovens. Then once a year pay a pan to spring clean it all and the extractor fan.

Thanks all. I too am interested how you stop things falling down the back? How much of a gap is there?

I ended up with a family of mice living in the back of mine and it was the final straw. I sold it on Facebook and got a new kitchen

WaitingfortheTardis · 09/04/2024 21:25

I love ours, we've never had a problem with anything falling down the back as the gap is tiny. Ours is an induction hob and works really well, it's also really easy to clean.

BoobyDazzler · 09/04/2024 21:29

Has the duel fuel 90. It came with the house and was hands down the worst oven I’ve ever used. The hob was okay except for being an absolute bitch to clean.

Electric ovens with induction hobs only from now on

HullaBallu · 09/04/2024 21:32

We've got a 90cm Rangemaster with 2 ovens and I have mixed feelings, tbh.

Plus: I use both ovens a lot, and the small oven is good for smaller things. Wok burner is good for doing fry ups/pancakes/risottos in a big paella pan. It's blue. It looks 'right' in a farmhouse kitchen.

Cons: it always looks filthy. Cleaning the hobs means hoiking the heavy pan supports off, and the edges have made holes in my sink. Build quality isn't great: a screw worked loose from the door just from opening and closing it, and a knob snapped off the oven dial.

Randomly, a recent power cut has done something to blow out the clock and the main oven but not the grill or the small oven, and frankly I'm kind of hoping we might replace it...

ADessertOrAMeringue · 09/04/2024 21:59

I have the Stoves 90cm Sterling. It has a splitter for the side oven that divides it into 2 smaller ovens. I use it all the time to heat up smaller things more quickly than using the main oven. It's also handy for big family roasts with lots of things cooking at different heats/times. Worth having a look at Stoves, I found they are better value than Rangemasters and have more functionality.
