New Kitchen - What to do?

ConfusedHusband100 · 22/03/2024 16:40

Looking at getting a new kitchen - first time doing this as always been in rented or new builds.

Like food where by eyes are bigger than stomach I am in danger of over spending or putting too much in not a huge area:

Gas Hob - always wanted a 5 burner, do I NEED it? I do cook a lot and dont have microwave so the 4 I have are often in use, but the extra space???

Oven - Does anyone use the combi Microwaves? Will be getting a NEFF main oven I think as like the slide door and a combi could be useful at Xmas or times when I am cooking a lot, although I do have a big airfryer if I need extra oven space? Not too many occasions when I would use a microwave as tend to cook on hob, so do I NEED one?

Warming Drawer - I do bake so this would be ideal (and hate cold plates) but 14cm seems a bit low if proving a loaf? Maybe its not?

Dishwasher - always had full size, but slimline will save space, any limitations?

Range cooker - thought I wanted one but not sure now, possibly overkill?

There is me and two teens half the time, although in 2.5 years one will probably go off to uni?

We’re also looking at kitchens at the moment and wondering similar things!
We’re probably going to go for a 4 ring hob as the space we have isn’t massive.
We’re leaning towards the combi microwave oven plus a normal oven. We do use the microwave as I batch cook meals for my toddler to reheat when he can’t eat what we’re eating. I don’t want a microwave on the countertops as I’d like to save as much surface space as possible.
Full size dishwasher 100%

If 5 burners includes a wok burner then that sounds good.
As for a warmer drawer and baking we just use the oven itself, if your oven has a really low temp option? Or just turn it on for 30 seconds and then use it.
Hate microwaves, only ever used to defrost or reheat cold tea!
Would rather try and find a (double) oven that has a high max. temperature for pizza.
Do 'big' dishwashers do half loads? You'll never get more in a slim line, big pans and such. But I'm guessing cos we've only had one when we go on holiday.
Lots and lots of cupboard space for all the gadgets you like but use once or twice a year. :D

I had a new kitchen last year.
Everything you named I had on my list .
I have however ended up with....
Induction hob
Two ovens
Hot water tap
Full size dishwasher
No top cupboards
A larder cupboard and lots and lots of deep draws

Whatever else you choose, I'd definitely stick with a full size dishwasher. You can always do a half load when necessary. I hate top cupboards so I don't have any - my larder is more useful to me.

Edited to add that when you're collecting all your inspiration photos, choose from a range of magazine features / pinterest / insta etc rather than kitchen brochures, which are very limited in their styling and interesting ideas.

I have a 6 burner gas hob and it was not expensive...much more useful than a 4 burner with an extra giant wok burner (that never gets used)

100% full size dishwasher

Built in microwave is a lot more expensive than a standard sized counter top microwave...you can always add microwave later if you want

Hot water tap is amazing...best gadget ever

Just got a new kitchen in my new build. I got a black glass gas hob, black sink and black counter tops. It looks so tidy and clean. White cupboards and deep drawers. My microwave is in the utility.

I got a range, as its housed 2 ovens, a warming drawer 5 burners, a griddle..in one place

A dishwasher was so important for me
