What colour kitchen woodwork?

Any suggestions on what colour to paint this kitchen/diner?. It was built in 1998, and the previous owners went big on the stained pine look. I'd like to tone it down, as it currently encompasses kitchen units, overhead beams and floor, and staircase! I also have a lovely rustic stone wall, plus black stone flooring and black worktops.

Personally I'd leave the kitchen, paint the beams white (I'm not a fan of these kind of beams), probably paint the door, look at covering the stone as that's not for me either. I'd also paint the stairs. I think it's the mock beams/stone wall that date it, along with the pine.
If that doesn't tone ot down enough I'd look at stripping and staining the pine to a whiter colour. I'm a fan of a wooden kitchen, maybe less orange.

I'd go for a light sage green because it won't jar with your cupboard style and it will complement the stone on your walls and the tile. I like your Zog hanging from the ceiling 😁

Yes painting out the beams is definitely on the agenda. Probably a good idea to do those and the doors first up. Painting or stripping the kitchen units is a very off putting prospect, so maybe approaching a bit at a time makes this a less daunting. I am dreading the prospect of redoing a colour I'm not happy with. I don't mind wood, I just don't like this stain and the big dark knots.

I have already painted the windowsills, skirting boards and part of the ceiling in here. It was all SO PINEY!😧

Thanks @Desecratedcoconut I didn't know they were called Zogs.

No need to strip the cupboard before it you want to paint them. I covered similar colour veneered cabinet doors when we moved. Sand a little then Bin Zinsser primer before painting, I used a water based eggshell and it’s lasted well for nearly 2 years so far. It was a dark room so I used white on the top and a darker colour on the bottom units. Any holes or dents can be filled with poly filler and sanded, including any from the handles if you change these for another style.

I’d paint the stairs in a nice off-white as this is a safe choice, you don’t want to repaint in a few years. Search colour ideas depending on which you like. Find inspiration pictures and mix and match to suit you.

I wouldn't paint the units either...for some reason it always looks slightly bland as the wood has variation and the paint won't

I would paint the staircase though and other wooden extras.

Valspar do coloured varnish, which you could use to tome down the pine without having to strip. It still, looks like wood, but less orange. It comes in colours, not just other wood finishes.
I used a blue varnish on a pine desk and it worked well ( quite exotic) .

An interiors account I follow in instagram has done this, painted some and whitewashed some, @placeshaperinteriors

I was also going to say white wash. I know it’s a smaller job. But I recently did my fire place. Which was orange. I simply applied a coat of wood bleach it didn’t take it down much, maybe one shade, I then wiped clean and white washed

I used a farrow and ball tester In drop cloth I had going spare, which is like a pale stone colour. One part paint to 5 parts water, so it was very watery, painted it on, and wiped off, and the difference is astounding, I did two coats, it now looks like pale limed oak and the orange is totally gone.

honestly I’d try that before I painted the beams or the stair case. Then consider the units.
