I want to make this guest room more inviting. It’s currently colour drenched in a grey - that has to change!
The bed is handmade with walnut by a relative so has to stay. The wardrobes have to stay but can be painted - but what colour? The bedside unit could also be painted, maybe and I have another to match on the other side. The carpet is a mushroom colour which needs to stay. I want to make it look more cohesive and inviting. The hallway beyond is a copy if F&B Joa’s White so I was thinking of continuing that through to this room but what colour the wardrobes and do I paint the Bedside cabinets or no. It’s so miss matched!

It is a bit bare. I’d paint the bedside cabinet to match the wardrobes. I’d then paint the room a nicer colour. I’m currently considering skimming stone.

id then add some nice artwork, a throw, and some decorative pillows.

the bed looks like it doesn’t have decent pillows on it, and I’m sorry but the lack of headboard and pillows makes the bed look very puritanical and sparse,

Skimming Stone No.241 | Handcrafted Paint

Skimming Stone takes its name from a 19th century plaster colour, but often reminds us of afternoons skimming stones. Available in-store and online.

@Lampslights agree about the bed! Not sure what I can do about the headboard bit thought. I was thinking upright large square cushions against it.
Do I paint the wardrobes and cabinets a contrasting colour or the same as the wall colour so they blend in?

I’d leave the wardrobes as they are, they are nice and not an issue, I’d just match in the bedside cabinet.

add a nice coloured throw to the bed, in a colour you like, duck egg, olive green, pale pink, whatever , more actual pillows so it looks more luxurious and then some decorative ones on top.

I'd really try to sort that headboard - it's very sparse. Create a rattan back to it, or a soft headboard type thing with lovely fabric?

SnowGlobes · 09/03/2024 09:34

@NobbyNobbs & @Lampslights Ive some headboard cushions on Etsy that would fasten to the headboard so that could work.

Thank you! @Lampslights @NobbyNobbs where the wall is at an angle do you think a full length mirror? It’ll reflect the end of the bed so I’m unsure.

I think the headboard cushion on Etsy could work - I’m thinking a beige with raspberry piping.

I’ll paint the bedside cabinets a cream I think. And get some new bedside lamps too.

I meant to show you the headboard cushion. I wonder if it would work?

Yes that would work.

Something similar but in velvet would be nicer, more luxurious, maybe in the moss green. Which would go with the wood, you could then get a green that totally blends in for the throw, and a mixture for the decorative pillow.

with the cream units, a neutral warm wall, and say some botanical art work could look nice.

I like the headboard cushion. It softens the bed up immediately and, you can layer up on textures with velvet scatter cushions and nice bedding, team it with a throw folded at the foot area to break up the sparse wood.

NobbyNobbs · 09/03/2024 15:04

I like the idea of a mirror, but yes, if it's going to reflect the wardrobes, instead of bringing light into the room, then maybe not.

My pet hate is short curtains. You could have floor length? Think about changing your lampshade too. It's all budget dependant though of course.

NobbyNobbs · 09/03/2024 15:06

You could definitely do with some large art work on the wall behind the bed as well. Something that matches the width of the headboard.

JobMatch3000 · 09/03/2024 15:31

As PP, I'd just get some rattan sheeting and staple gun it to the back of the headboard (yes - I watch too much "Interior Design Masters).
Lots of cushions and a throw.
Repaint the walls.
Add some artwork and maybe a rug.

SnowGlobes · 09/03/2024 23:00

@JobMatch3000 the bed is solid walnut so I’d rather not be stapling anything to it aka 60 minute makeover! I’m preferring the cushion ‘headboard’ that’ll fasten as long as it doesn’t look too makeshift (worried it could also look 60 minute makeover). Not sure if it’ll look good or a bit crap. Totally agree that the wall colour is awfully depressing - it’s a F&B grey, ammonite or Cornforth. But yes that’s going! We’ve done the hall Joa’s so I’m thinking of continuing that.
@NobbyNobbs yes the curtains are short. I think that’s because there’s a radiator under the window. I’m going to have Roman blinds made once I’ve worked out the colour scheme. It’s not a big room and I think full length maybe a bit much in such a tiny room. Omg defo changing the bedside lamp. Probs the ceiling one too but not sure what as I only like lights that are eye wateringly expensive… so make do with existing ugly!

@Lampslights I thought the velvet headboard looked a bit saggy. Whereas this style looks more taught. The photo isn’t the colours I’m thinking btw - I’m thinking a taupe (their honey or mink - she’s sending samples) with Ruby piping maybe. I’m thinking quite neutral but with green and deep pink accents. Maybe!
