NW facing room, bright as has doors at one end outside and a window at the other.

Wimborne white too cream

James white too green

Timeless too grey

Nutmeg white is pink

Wevet too grey

I am so fed up. I don't want a stark white, a cosy white.

Can anyone suggest something else please?

Thank you

I hear your frustration! My NW facing kitchen was driving me round the bend, too. I was so fed up of never finding a shade that didn't end up looking the wrong version of yellow/grey/green/pink or even lilac that one day I walked into my local independent diy shop and walked out with a 25l tub of.. Armstead contract matt white. A bog standard trade white. And you know what, it is actually lovely. Not stark, not too white, no weird undertones. Just a pleasant cosy soft powdery non-offensive white. I'm sat here on a grey dull early March morning and the room doesn't feel cold.
NW facing rooms are a beast for sure! In my case keeping it super simple paid off. I might decide to change in the future but also happy to keep it as it. I find it more than liveable with.

Try Wickes Chalk White.

Thank you, looking at all of your suggestions. I wonder if we need a red based white like Pointing?

My last house was Pointing throughout and it worked well.

I have a lot of Timeless, and have had it in n facing rooms in a couple of houses, I love it.

WildFlowerBees · 09/03/2024 09:26

From top left

James white

Middle Wimborne White

Right Timeless

Bottom Wevet.

We had timeless in our old house and it was really lovely. Doesn't work here sadly.

Currently got a white trade paint as a base over what was there previously which is very stark in this room.

I can't seem to get it right!

Shame about the trade white not working out at yours.
Back then when looking I was also curious about Benjamin Moore White Dove and Slaked Lime by Little Greene. I say curious because I never actually got to test them but they were colours I was intrigued by. The first is meant to be a soft white and the SL a nice neutral. Benjamin Moore in general is supposed to have nice whites.
Don't worry OP, I'm sure you'll find something that works.

I'm also lobbing in my vote for Pointing. I've used Wimborne White and Timeless too. All great, and, as you imply, depends on the house/light.

I used Benjamin. Moore Chantilly lace oc65 in my NW facing room. Actually used in the entire house which does not have any window coverings so lots of light. I knew I wanted white and saved lots of magazine suggestions for white. It was said to be most neutral without being too bright white. I also am curious about Sherwin Williams city loft 7631. If pressed I would say chantilly leans ever so slightly blue and city slightly grey. There’s a lot of insta chatter about city loft. I didn’t want yellow and I didn’t want white white and I’m very happy with the chantilly

Another vote for Dulux Timeless - it is a warm white
