A looks a bit weird on the sample picture because there’s so few, but I imagine would look the best over the whole expanse.

Wolfpa · 27/02/2024 20:53

if you do them all horizontally will you still need to cut the tiles?

it looks as if you do in the other two options which is just creating you more work

Sunnnybunny72 · 27/02/2024 20:54

All horizontal.

letmeeatinpeace · 27/02/2024 20:55

Forgot to say - the pics represent the max height the tiles would reach on the backsplash. They dont reach the bottom of the cabinets, they'll be laid in a 'strip' like the rough pic below

My instinct says option 1 (all vertical) reaches a bit too high- they almost touch the cabinet but not quite. I think option 2 or 3 would be more balanced?

All vertical

ItRainsItPours · 27/02/2024 20:57

I like option 2.

Tulipvase · 27/02/2024 21:01

I like 2.

why not staggered horizontally, like house bricks?

Seaside3 · 27/02/2024 21:02

I like 2, but would want another row of horizontal.
So, if that's not happening, I'd go with 1.

SpringOfContentment · 27/02/2024 21:06

1 looks strange because of the gap.

So, 2 or 3.

Froniga · 27/02/2024 22:17

Vertical looks good. But I would go higher as a splash back behind the cooker

Janehasamane · 27/02/2024 22:18

I also like 2.

DappledThings · 28/02/2024 09:22

3

Catsfrontbum · 28/02/2024 09:25

Verticle to the very top. No gap. The gap will look cheap/out of balance.

not the verticle/horizontal. That’s mad.

YouTulip · 28/02/2024 09:29

I would go for a horizontal offset, as in the second set of diagrams here.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 28/02/2024 09:31

Horizontal buy staggered

Durdledore · 28/02/2024 09:32

Another vote for horizontal staggered

YouTulip · 28/02/2024 09:42

Yes, that’s what I’m saying, too — the term used on the website I linked is ‘horizontal offset’, though you can do it in different ways.

User65412 · 28/02/2024 10:44

I like 3

letmeeatinpeace · 28/02/2024 14:29

Uff quite a mix of opinions here! I'm going to 'tile' a larger area tomorrow with some different options, to get a better idea. Blue tack is working surprisingly well!

A design like say 2 gives a bit more 'warmth' to the pattern. Horizontal or vertical are more austere imo. :)

StarlightLime · 28/02/2024 20:21

Option 2.

Avacadoandtoast · 28/02/2024 20:26

3, but staggered

letmeeatinpeace · 29/02/2024 12:18

Oook so had some fun 'tiling' a larger area, interested to hear your verdicts...

Horizontal staggered works best.
