Does anyone have one of these machine washable rugs?

I'm thinking of getting one for our lounge but it's a lot of money without being able to see it in store.

What's the quality like? Do they crinkle / crease /bend?

YES! And I absolutely love them. They don’t crinkle, crease or bend as you attach them to the underlay. Fab rugs and love the look of the William Morris collection.

Yes, I've had one for about two years. Not washed it yet but no longer have a dog and we don't wear shoes on the rug. Still good to know I have the option. I love the rug and don't notice it being cheap or bendy or different from a regular rug. I bought mine as I needed a square rug and few place sold what I wanted.

Just be careful if you are getting a large one and hoping to wash it as the large ones probably wont go in a domestic machine so may cost a lot to clean.

I love ours, we have 2 in the kitchen. They are really good quality and they stay put.

Yes, this. A decent size rug unlikely to fit in a regular washing machine. My parents have one and they pressure wash it in the summer and it comes out well but it can’t fit in the machine.

Great to hear thank you! I live near a laundrette with big drums so I'm not worried about it not being able to fit too much. Two kids and a dog, so it would be nice to give it a good wash once in a while.

I'll make the plunge thank you!

Check the delivery times and return costs. I ordered one last year and it took ages to arrive and charged for a return as it was back to USA. They may have product in the UK now, but I would suggest checking

I have a runner in my kichen and a large room sized rug in my snug. I love them - the runner goes in the washing maching every couple of months and the room sized one my DH goes over it with a carpet cleaner. We have a dog so it can mark - I also remove small marks with a damp cloth

I’ve got one. Ours washed fine. I’d say quality-wise it’s pretty good - you can tell it’s not a luxury product, but it’s designed to look nice, last and be washable and fits that remit. Mine’s a longer hallway runner but fits in my machine. Works really well as a rug for a heavy use area and stays on its backing pad without slipping (on tiles). It’s been worth it for the times I’ve need to wash it with children and pets around.

We bought them because we have a cat who very occasionally does a wee on the floor and I was sick of having to have our old rugs professionally cleaned.

The large ones need to go to the laundrette but that's not a huge issue. We've also found that the edges curl up but we use rug tape which stops that.

We wash them once a year ish.

Fullofthejoysofspring · 24/02/2024 08:22

Our local launderettes refuse to accept rugs so check yours first

What is the underlay made of?

legalseagull · 24/02/2024 20:49

Thanks everyone

Polyester and thermoplastics - some of the polyester is recycled.

We have a 9kg washing machine and our large Iris Apfel rug fits in (about 2.5 x 3m).

I have one which is tested regularly by my toddler. It washes fine but some stains need to be rubbed with Vanish, otherwise they won't go. Also the fabric does look quite cheap, if it wasn't for a toddler I would prefer something different.

I couldn't afford a ruggable rug but got a fab washable rug from Dunelm for £100. Lots of other places so them so worth looking about.

Good shout I've found a washable runner from there. I just really like the design of the large living room one

We have a Ruggable rug. We sent back the first we got because it just didn't look right. Returns were quite helpful. HOWEVER, after a few days with the new, nicer design, we realised that it was moving around a bit. As time went on, we were finding that it moveds around a LOT. Talked to customer services, and they said, oh, well, if you've got it on top of carpet it won't work. Not even any suggestions for tricks to make it work. Too late by then to send it back.

Since then we've bought a John Lewis under-rug thing, as recommended on MN. Using that instead of the Ruggable rug helped it stay in place but made it look horribly wrinkly, and the dog could lift it and chew it too easily. We're now trying with rug + Ruggable pad + JL underlay, and that's not really working either.

I feel pretty pissed off that it's not clearer in the Ruggable marketing that it's only for hard floors. Yes, in retrospect, the floors in the photos are all hard, but I don't think they say anywhere that it's for hard floors only, which I think they should, given how categorically that was stated after purchase by customer services. And if anyone can suggest a workaround that would be worth trying, please hit me with it!

Movinghouseatlast · 18/03/2024 12:27

All rugs move around on carpet, it's just what they do.

Foxy underlay is the only thing I've found that stops it as its specially made for this purpose.
