Good quality brands for kitchen chairs

I'm looking for nice quality kitchen chairs. Happy to spend money at the price for a nice set from John Lewis (or a little more).

However, looking at the second hand market John Lewis chair quality (longevity) can be quite mixed. Specifically with the fabrics wearing badly on some items after only a few years.

Can you recommend a nice quality brand for kitchen chairs that last well with reasonable use?

I'd go with (optionally painted) farmhouse slat back chairs in solid wood. Mine have been in use for a couple of decades.

This sort of shape. I think you can get them second hand quite happily.

Thanks. I quite like the Scandinavian styles. Perhaps that's the problem though, lots of things that can wear out. Was looking for something a bit nicer than IKEA, but it's one of those where if you spend money, you want it to last

Maybe specifying the style helps to narrow it down.

Ercol are a lifetime buy - they can be easily picked up second hand or it's worth looking on their factory outlet on Ebay.

I work in the upholstery trade and I would be very rich if I had a £1 every call I took from someone who has bought pleather/faux leather chairs that have rubbed apart in a few years and they think it's cheap to recover them...!! I've got 2 sets in at the moment that people spent a LOT of money on from a well known retail park furniture store. Both worn right through in under 5 years.

Scandi is probably good information.

I love Ercol as well.

I guess your alternative to pure wood, is chairs where the base is wood and the pads are genuinely removable and fabric covered. Yes the fabric will wear, but you just remove it and replace reattaching with staples.

I recently searched for months to find kitchen chairs with a scandi look in good quality materials. Hate everything, everything is veneer, old fashioned or costs a billion pounds.

Eventually ordered these scandi/school style chairs. They took quite a while to be delivered but I am SO pleased with them. They feel so solid and will last a lifetime.

Thanks for confirming. This is exactly what I had noticed, the fake leather looks nice and can be soft but seems to wear badly. I suppose they sell based on how they look in a shop today, not 2 years time.

Some of the Ercol chairs do look nice/to my taste

I’m on an Ercol FB group if you wanted to pursue it OP. People sell v reasonably and there are some really knowledgeable members too. They can also help you to look for pieces (eg recommendations for auctions local to you etc).

The lighter pieces are a lot more expensive than darker, because the dark wood is apparently out of fashion at the moment. They also have advice on there re how to sand back and restore as well if you fancy picking up a bargain and having a project.

If you can't find ercol in your budget, there are some really nice gplan chairs around, they're also great quality and much cheaper (usually) than ercol.

I like dark wood, so that's useful. Can you send me a link please
