Marble floors v LVF

Hi just wondering if anyone has put LVF over marble tiles. I have marble tiles running all through my house downstairs, they are a nightmare to clean and at this stage I just want to get rid of them. I'm thinking of putting Luxury Vinyl flooring in a cream marble effect over them. Has anyone done this. I'd love to hear your views with the pros and cons of doing this . Photos of before and after would also be so helpful. Thanks so much

Do you mean LVT like Karndean or Amtico? If so, you may not be able to fit over top of your tiles, they require a 100% level subfloor and the isntallers may insist the tiles are taken up. I believe you can get cheaper brands of LVT in click versions so that might be different. Perhaps best to contact a local flooring company who can come out and advise you? Good luck.

Agree with PP, we are doing it currently....

You can latex screed over existing tiles and glue down LVT. Needs to be done professionally.

OR if the grout lines aren't too big and floor is fairly but not perfectly flat you can use click LVT. Karndean do one, so do quickstep, Moduleo etc. Most have a built in underlay. From reading around the click LVT isn't particularly well thought of but we got samples and it looked fine. It's also DIYable if you're handy.

We are going Option 1 as our grout lines are too big and we were having to screed anyway.

Another benefit of gluedown is that you can install flush and not need to remove the skirting. With a click version you need an expansion gap so either remove skirting and refit or add beading.

Why is the marble hard to keep clean? What are you cleaning it with? If you could get it clean and keep it clean more easily would you want to keep it? Seems a shame to cover it over.
Having said that, my parents had a gorgeous green marble floor in their grand hallway. But on snowy/rainy days, drops of water from coats etc would mark the floor and drove my mum mad. The marks did wipe up easily enough, but it was bad enough in a house of 2 adults with the odd visitor.....kids and pets would have finished her off!

We had marble flooring in our kitchen diner, wasn't my style, was freezing in the winter and felt too hard for my newly mobile toddler. We fitted interlocking LVT over the top with underlay, so more forgiving as long as subfloor pretty level.

We're really happy with the result and it was pretty easy to DIY. It feels harder to keep clean now, but that's only because we chose light grey and you can actually see the mess now!
