How long would you wait to replace furniture you hate?

We bought leather recliners we hate recently. I feel so guilty because they were almost £3000 and were not even done paying it off but I really want to buy a new sofa soon it would prob be max £1200 as we wouldn’t opt for a recliner or leather ever again. Question is am I insane for considering getting rid of it this soon? I feel so much guilt for money wasted but also it’s something we use everyday. How long would you wait to replace them?

Why do you hate them so much?

That feels a very strong emotion about chairs.

Unless they were giving me a bad back I'd probably not swap.

But don't feel guilty, it's your money. Sell the chairs, buy a sofa.

That is crazy. Put up with them, at least until you've bought them.

What's wrong with them

I can't understand how / why you've spent £3000 on something without doing quite a bit of research and testing first.

So, presumably you are a lot wealthier than most, so therefore our answers about how long you should keep them are going to be out of sync with yours.

I mean, generally, I'd expect to keep a suite for 15 - 20 years, but I've never spent £3k on one.

We got rid of a sofa after less than 4 years. It was L-shaped and didn't fit the shape of the living room in our next house. It cost around £1,500 and I felt guilty but I really love the new sofas.

@NewName24 prices have gone up A LOT since you last purchased if you usually keep them for 15-20 years.

@flatmop we replaced ours within the last 2 years.... the previous one was that old Smile

Can you put them on eBay? See if you get a good offer on them if they are in good condition? We bought new sofas about 3 years ago and they are good as new but so uncomfortable. I'm dying for them to wear out.

I would sell them to try and get some of the money back, and then have a good look around to see if you could get anything for cheap. We just got a free sofa from Facebook marketplace and it's amazing!
