Hello everyone,

Need to get a move on with the move since there are a number of repairs still need to be done to the flat. My mum strongly advised me to get some curtains/blinds for privacy.

Anywhoo, I'm unsure whether I should get wooden blinds or roman fabric blinds for our windows. Which one do you to think will look the best. I do not have the funds for shutters. Pics are attached.. but will soon be removed for privacy reasons.

The first picture in the stairs window.

The second picture is the window next to the bathroom.

The third picture is window in the kitchen.

Venetian blinds will give you more privacy in the daytime but if you aren’t particularly overlooked I’d go for Roman blinds, I think they look nicer and Venetians are a pain to dust.

Our wooden blinds don't seem to do much for keeping the heat in.
So, is your primary concern privacy or heating?

Personally, I prefer fabric, and nothing in the kitchen.

I've recently got venetian blinds for the kitchen. They look nice, but I went for the larger slats thinking there would be fewer to clean, but wish I hadn't now, as they take up space on the window sill where I used to have a plant, a jug for watering it and a pestle and mortar. I now have to find somewhere else to put them, which I wouldn't had I got the thinner slats. That might be worth considering.

I would go for Roman blinds in living areas, and venetians in the kitchen, as yes, they are a pain to dust, but you can wash them more easily than you can fabric ones. Also, the blinds companies all advised me to get wooden-look (ie UPVC) blinds for the kitchen, as wooden ones are likely to warp. I'm guessing that would be true in bathrooms too. Roller blinds are fine there, though, as you either want them up or down.

Thank you :) Privacy concern is more of an issue than hearing as we are overlooking into other neighbouring windows. Plus the window next to the bathroom is a privacy concern, as soon as you leave the bathroom, the window is just there for all eyes to see.

I thought so too. I originally wanted to buy the Roman blinds but thought they are likely to get dirty, considering that our fridge is right next to the window.

How big are your slides, most Venetian blinds say 50 m (?). How small should I get?

Mine are 50mm - I've just measured them. The smaller ones were maybe 30mm? I'm not sure to be honest. I chose based on colour, and it wasn't till the man came to measure up that I thought about the depth of the slats. Mine are quite chunky though.

If you want privacy, Venetian blinds are good because they can be half open, whereas Roman blinds are either up or down.
