Moroccan/ patterned tiles?

We’re hoping to brighten up our beige kitchen with some patterned tiles on the wall as a splashback. I’ve ordered a few samples now and they all look printed. Has anyone found some authentic looking Moroccan style or nicely patterned tiles?

The hob sits on a peninsula so they don’t need to be heatproof. Inspo photo attached.

TIA!

Have you tried on Etsy, I’ve found some nice ones on there. I got some for my Bathroom sink splashback from Tileflair.

You need to search for encaustic tiles, the clay is inlaid so not printed. Or hand painted, where the pattern is put onto bisque tiles with underglaze or oxide, and then glazed.

i agree that the printed one just lack depth and interest, probably because they are all exactly the same. Depending on how many you want, you could commission some from a potter ( I used to do this before I moved away from my kiln). I used prefired blanks, so it wasn’t especially expensive as I wasn’t making from scratch.

Agree Etsy is the best source. I got my Moroccan tiles from there. These are similar to what I have in my kitchen.

Have a look at Marrakesh Design. But as PP says, the key thing is that they’re encaustic. IMO it’s one of those things where you get what you pay for, too.

Thank you! That’s really helped my search. I had found a few companies on Etsy but a couple of reviews mentioned the printed look I’d experienced with other companies. Have found a company called Bert & May which looks promising!
