Agghh help me choose tile colour! (pics)

After ordering a billion tile samples I've finally narrowed them down to white or beige. See my v crudely photoshopped mock-ups. And closeup of the tiles - the beige has a kind of painterly finish so the colour is not even. The whites have a slight variation in white from tile to tile.

I'm leaning towards the white as seems less risky... thoughts?

I think the white tiles look more fresh and bright. We are getting our kitchen done in March and will also be having this dilemma, I am crap at imagining what things will look like in the end, and what will be most practical!

Same! I regretted my tile choice in my last kitchen so this time we held off choosing until the kitchen was totally fitted. Still not finding it easy!

I like beige!

EspressoMartiniBish · 18/01/2024 14:37

I think white looks a bit..clinical?

MarchHareInTheRain · 18/01/2024 14:38

Can you go the bride but with a brighter grout? I'm not keen on the dark grout in the mock up - but love the darker tile.

MarchHareInTheRain · 18/01/2024 14:39

Beige not bride!!

SaltyGod · 18/01/2024 14:42

White for me. Fresher, brighter, and your worktop is already a bit darker. Caveat: I have a slight beige phobia and worry beige will just be a bit, well, beige.

Are you laying horizontally or
vertically? I’ve not seen that horizontal style
before

Planning on laying them vertically, like in the pics. Partly as I like the look, and partly as it would be easier to tile under the wall plugs (the plugs would have to be shifted if laying the traditional horizontal way as the current position would mean the tiles wouldn't underlap - a detail I failed to notice when they were positioned!)

I don't think the dark ones match your kitchen. Your kitchen looks fairly modern with all the stainless steel. And they look a bit too rustic but of a clash of styles in my opinion.

Luckydog7 · 18/01/2024 15:05

The darker ones are too close in colour to the surfaces, it needs to match exactly (which it won't because they are different textures) or contrast which you get with the white. If there is an option for an off white, so something in-between the two I would consider that but if the two shown the white is much better.

CellarCeller · 18/01/2024 15:38

I would go with white but horizontal in a staggered brick like pattern.
Nobody does tiles like you've suggested cos it doesn't look good. Sorry.

Northby · 18/01/2024 15:51

Definitely white. Vertical would look fine I think.
I would then paint the walls F&B setting plaster to make it a bit more cosy… but that’s me!
Edit: or a taupe colour to tie in with the worktop. Or even a soft sage colour.

Seaside3 · 18/01/2024 18:43

If in doubt, go classic. I'd go white in your case.
And @CellarCeller I'd beg to differ. Mine are vertical and look amazing.

mathanxiety · 18/01/2024 18:48

I like the white - it's a warm tone of white.

The beige is very blah.

mrsbyers · 18/01/2024 18:49

I dislike the white as not noticeable at all , the first one is tonal with the flooring and brings everything together , some nice wood accessories on display and lovely

IKissedKermit · 18/01/2024 19:16

I would go with horizontal offset brick style. I once worked in a building with white vertical tiles/charcoal grey grouting on the outside. It was the ugliest building in the city, like a giant public loo turned inside out. I used to feel sorry for the people working across the street from it. A good tiler will make horizontal tiling work.

I like all the tiles in your first photo, bar the last one and I would choose grouting as close as you can get to the tile colour. The creamy dimpled one in the middle is my favourite, it's very similar to what I have with lots of stainless steel but natural wood rather than white units. Other than that, I would go with the one which matches your worktop best in real life.

Roastiesarethebestbit · 18/01/2024 19:21

I’m not a fan of beige. Somehow it’s even more boring than white. I like the horizontal stacking though. I’d personally go for a proper colour. I like greens with white and wood.

carpingdeum · 18/01/2024 19:51

I like the white

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 19/01/2024 11:42

I would have all three , as long as they are the same dimensions, then use them as randomly as possible. That way you will have a ‘living’ surface, much easier on the eye ( also every tiny mark doesn’t shout ‘wipe me ‘ straightaway).

Thank you all for your thoughts x
