Advice for this room?

We have a room currently used as a living room. We're about to do it up as we've just moved in and I'm feeling a bit stumped.

We have a different room which is also a living room so this room will be a play room for our kids. It has a TV, low built in cupboards in the alcoves, french doors to the garden. It's filled with furniture at the moment but will basically be done from scratch. Wonder what your thoughts on layout would be?

R - radiator
W - window
D - garden door

I'm thinking toys to be stored in here but also want to get something like the second pic. Needs to have a play area and preferably some seating

I’m a little unclear which room you’re talking about. Is it the second playroom in effect?

First off I personally wouldn’t have the climbing frame that you show. The kids will grow out of it fast, you’d have to supervise it like an eagle (kids, ropes and high surfaces a bad mix) and it’ll be chaos when kid visitors are around.

Instead I’d go for a low seating area like a futon, a child’s book shelf beside it and depending on your child’s interests, a large low table (wooden props would do!) for train sets, Lego, playmobil etc.

That’s quite a large bit of furniture that won’t last long as they grow, and you need to be round them all the time when they use it in case they fall.

it wouldn’t be my choice.

we have a play room, when my child was younger it obvs had the toys in, as well as things like play station, x box, etc.

now she’s a young adult. It’s still the play room, but more a second living room, we habe two sofas in there, a coffeee table, as we always have done, but now it’s just the tv, games consoles, and music speakers.

she uses it for studying, previously homework more, socialising with friends, my husband if he’s gaming, it also works if we want to watch different things on tv.

There are some kids sofas that look good where all the cushions can come off to build dens.

I'd have lots of bookshelves and storage for toys.

And one of those rugs with a map of streets to drive toy cars around.

This is the one I was thinking of

Also an art and craft zone with a proper table and light for making stuff. And again more storage.

The indoor climbing frame will be a nightmare. How about a gym mat or similar for active play instead?

Then beanbag sofas, and toy storage. They'll take toys to wherever you are anyway!

Thanks for all the replies. You've warned me off the climbing frame. I used to have two hooks in the ceiling that we attached a swing or gymnastics hoops to. I was really after something like that but don't have a ceiling they could hang from 🫤.

Love the idea of a craft area as my children love making things
