Obscuring a window during decorating

Hello all.

I want to obscure a window for the period a room is being decorated. Back in the olden days windolene was the thing that was used - wipe it on, let it dry, draw funny faces in it with your finger, buff it off when you are done. No one can see in whilst you are doing your decorating as your curtains are down.

I found some ancient windolene and it is not white any more just thin runny smelly liquid, so it failed to obscure the window (though the glass is now super clean, yay! (sigh) A bit stumped as an internet search brought up nothing, even windolene is hard to come by!

So - what product is used like this nowadays?

Cheers all.

Fake snow spray for windows? There might be some around given the time of year?

Tape newspaper to the inside of the window.
Effortless and dirt cheap.

I bought a roll of lining paper and some decent masking tape and taped it to the frames.

Hiya

I hadn't thought about fake snow, that has tickled me!

I think the lining paper/newspaper taped onto the window frames is the simplest way, thanks all.

Double thumbs up for super fast replies, very grateful!

CIF scouring liquid.

If you still want some light coming through try tracing paper taped to the window. Also, it’s less likely to leave newsprint on your window frames/panes if you have condensation …. Please don’t ask how I found that out. (Freshly painted too!
groan).

Not being snarky at all but I'm struggling to understand why anyone would bother doing this? Why do you want your window obscured? Do you decorate in the nude? 😂

SerpentEndBench · 02/01/2024 00:13

I don't like people looking in. Sorry if you find that strange, we all have our little quirks, don't we.

Cheers for other suggestions.

Dc fix do a static cling product which is amazing, you can choose a pattern some are completely opaque but most are kind of frosted effect. You just spray water out the film on top and squeegee excess water off. You just pull it off when you want to remove it.

Hebeegeebe · 02/01/2024 00:17

and you can cut the roll to any sizes
