Hello all,
This is my first post upon joining mumsnet, so just figuring this all out at the moment haha.
Has anyone been in a situation like this and can offer some tips?:
I'm living in a non-ventilated tiny victorian flat with my partner, the issue is that the air is always damp in every room, so laundry and everything constantly smells damp and musky, even when we have the windows wide open. There's no room for a dryer or anything big, and we are in a hard financial place, so I'm looking at DIY maybe?
P.s. Apologies if this is the wrong category! 💚

Dehumidifier

DanFmDorking · 30/12/2023 06:56

I'm sorry you haven't received many replies on this - normally people are quite helpful.
A dehumidifier would certainly help but there's a cost to this. You might find a cheap one on Facebook Market Place.
Other that that leave a window open at the top and another window open that's lower down to encourage a flow of air.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.

If you rent, ask the landlord if he she can get you a dehumidifier..it benefits their property. Open windows for a while a day and wipe down condensation off windows xx

Definitely a dehumidifier, you might need to have to have it running most of the time.

Also the mumsnet fave, a Lakeland heated airer will stop the washing smelling musty. You’ll need the dehumidifier on at the same time though.

Open your windows, even just a little to let the damp.oit, and when it's not freezing open your doors for air flow.

Spin.your washing at least once to get rid of much excess moisture as you can.

We have just bought a dehumidifier too, waiting for ot to be delivered. £99 from Asda. Got cashback via topcashback and used our chase card, so should take it down to around £90.

Also, pop the heating in when you can to help.

If you have trickle vents make sure they are open. If can leave your top window on open locked. Windows open when u are home. Do you rent or are you owners?

Thank you for your tips and advice my darlings, I appreciate it a lot.
So, (i should have started with this) the floor plan of the flat is:
1 window per room (big slide up, victorian old, one window), we have 2 rooms in total in the whole flat, excluding the box bathroom. Tiny bedroom that fits two single beds and 1 wardrobe, and a living room that fits 1 couch, a table and the kitchen unit. We currently use 2 standard second-hand clothes airers (which take up half the space of the room), whilst the windows are open and we're getting frostbite lol. Jokes aside, we've had frozen weather here all over the Christmas period (still ongoing), so open windows for too long aren't really an option either! They don't seem to help much aswell, even when they're open all day when we're out..
I'm really in quite the rut and have ran out of ideas that are affordable + practical...

Well the dehumidifier is definitely on the list now! 😅 from what I can see, it seems to be a staple 🤔
Should I combine this with anything in particular? (Maximum size of objects that can be placed is around the size of a microwave)

I bought a 20l dehumidifier .i live in a cottage so it can be damp...its helped enormously...minimal damp when beforehand it was dripping! I also bought a karcher window vac..its amazing...stops that condensation going elsewhere from the be windows
