Help me fix this colour clash /scheme ?!

So I have the sage tumble and totter mat which is being used as a rug in the living area in front of a beige sofa as pictured below. Other side is gray but I like the floral
pattern on the sage side. My issue is that the sage mat is clashing with the beige sofa - it’s all looking very washed out. What can I do to make it blend together ? I feel like I need a stronger colour to add some “pop” that gels it together - a dark grey ? Pillows ?

I’d be adding a stronger sage green, not grey

@user701 thank you !! What colour curtains would you go for and what kind of canvas if you wanted a wall hanging ? Walls and furniture are white .

I think if you want to pull things together you need to find curtains and cushions that have your rugs sage and your sofas beige in them, plus a third colour. Dusty pink would go well.
Yellows, greens blues and pinks all look lovely together. If you like stronger tones, build up to them by introducing a layer of shades of the same colour, e.g. dusted pink to candy pink, or muted yellow to bright yellow. E.g. have dusted pink together with sage and beige in the curtain and then a strong pink as a lampshade as your 'pop of colour', but it will still gel with the whole, iynwim.

Definitely deeper colours needed. I would go dark sage/teal and mustard yellow.

A muted dark green would bring it together. Look how the darker green works with the pale green wall and beige bedding here.

It’s not a clash OP - those colours are quite complimentary… it’s just not finished yet. When I saw your pictures I immediately thought of an interiors shop I know called Sostrene Grene which has all these pinks and greens and blues off set against natural woods and wicker. I like the darker green with the sage but I’d throw in some pink too. You need to layer up the elements with your soft furnishings, lampshades and curtains etc…. Add some elements which aren’t too matchy matchy.

Divebar is right about needing more things to finish it.

I like rules as a starting point. One I found was:

60% main colour - walls
30% secondary colour - furniture
10% one or two accent colours - accessories

Your two colours are very pale and you can go one of two ways. Keep it very pale with lots of textured creams, pale woods etc - Scandinavian vibe

or add in a deeper/brighter colour for the pop.

Dont forget once you add lamps, pictures, rugs etc it all builds the look.

I often look at paint charts or fabrics to get inspiration for colour combination. Pinterest will be your friend here. Sometimes I look for things in my house with the right colours (scarves, cushions, bedding) and leave them in a visible place together so they catch my eye as I go about my day. After a while I can feel if it’s a combo that works for me.

Best of luck and have fun.
