Kitchen Colour

Please save me from thousands of testers pots.

Our kitchen desperately needs updating. I can't afford a full new kitchen in 2024, but it absolutely needs repainting at the very least.

I won't be changing the tiles or cupboards yet, these were chosen by the previous owner. The tiles are these https://www.diy.com/departments/trentie-ivory-gloss-metro-ceramic-wall-tile-pack-of-40-l-200mm-w-100mm/1758484_BQ.prd, with a row of black tiles too.

The cupboards are a similar colour to the ivory and gloss, if not a slightly darker shade.

The kitchen is dual aspect with windows that face north and east. It is quite small, often feels dark.

The oven (also chosen by the last owners) is red.

Am I stuck with more off-white/ivory on the walls for now? Can you suggest a good, clean looking, shade please?

We would appreciate any suggestions.

A deep blue? Think New England style. Or a darker neutral like a dark taupe if you want more muted.

I think a dusky blue would be beautiful.

I would also say blue, we have similar colours in our kitchen and went with powder blue as its a smaller kitchen so darker would be too light restricting. I also find white / cream and pale blue very relaxing as a combination like at the sea.

A dark mushroom. You have a res oven and a black tile so I think neutral colours would work

You can get sites were you can use visualisers that help. Sometimes they change say tiles rather than paint but you can see how colours look. Carpetright has one, one of tile companies has one and you put in photo of your kitchen.

The colours are so neutral you could put anything that doesn’t clash with red.

What’s your favourite colour?
How would you like to feel in your kitchen? Energised, relaxed, tropical?
Identify the feeling you want to create, then choose accordingly.

I would be tempted to go for the Dunelm previous poster suggested, but if it’s a dark room, it might suck out all the light.

If you don’t mind that haploid, black would be a dramatic show stopper, making those light colours all around pop! Hiding grease and dirt, too!
