Does anyone have experience of trundle beds - intention is to have one like this in guest room, for use by adults visiting or the occasional time when I or DH have got a cold ? Are these types of things ok for adults ?
Example below;

You need to check each individual bed frame you consider, whether its suitable for adults. Dimensions and possibly weight restrictions. But generally adult size beds are ok for adults, why wouldnt they. You usually can choose the matress separately, so there's room for making it comfortable for you. as you like.

Have two stackable ones in the small spare room They do the job but we purchased separate better mattresses. We leave a gap between them as two singles rather than one. You need larger sheets if using them together.

We have the JL one too - it’s my son’s actual bed currently and either his mates sleep on the trundle (they never bother raising it up) or occasionally we use the trundle in our spare room as a guest bed on its legs. I’ve slept on it too - we have decent ikea matching mattresses on both so it can also be used pushed together as a double. It’s 15 years old and still going strong

I've slept on the Hemnes one in the past and it was perfectly comfortable.

As a guest, I’ve slept in the ikea Hemnes bed and it was really uncomfortable. The mattress provided was really, really thin so that’s put me off ever buying one. (Obviously I didn’t tell my lovely host this!! 😉)

You can get different mattresses, the basic one is just a bit of foam

Place marking with interest as I’m looking for one too. Last time I researched this a few months ago lots of posters were saying beware some trundle beds are slightly lower than the main bed, which if you want to make a double makes a ridge and probably uncomfortable.

we only have one set of friends who stay and would probably want it as a double and my parents, grand kids etc and other friends would all be happy in a singles so I’m probably not going to worry about the ridge and give our friends the choice of a ridge or singles as they only come once a year and everyone else comes multiple times but I would like the floor space for my sewing table.

I've finally decided on the Heywood as in link above. It allows for deeper mattresses than many other brands so hopefully will be comfortable
Thanks to everyone for views and links

We have one similar to the John Lewis pull-out - it rises up to a normal height bed and it takes a thick mattress. We never got much use out of it - grown up kids want double beds. Have recently been quite impressed by blow-up mattresses - used one in an emergency and was told it was the most comfortable bed they had slept in for quite a while!

These are a great idea but if an adult were to use as a double would they seperate and they fall down the gap and is a mattress topper a good idea? Thanks

I wouldn't set them up as a standard double, I think it would be uncomfortable . The two trundles can be put together so they look like a double , but I would use separate, single bedding on each
