Painting over mirror

I've lived in my house for 3 years now and can't yet afford a bathroom refurb.

The sink is building into this hideous mirrored drawer unit. The mirror handles are flaking and can be replaced but the unit itself has to stay for the foreseeable.

When you sit on the loo it reflects your lower half back at you. It's awful!

I'd like to paint over it - what is the best way to go about this?

Look at vinyl? You can get it fir windows, so should work on your mirror. Or, remove the door for the cabinet so you have open shelving.

You can get self adhesive wall tiles and splash backs made from vinyl. Just cut to size with a Stanley knife and peel and stick on.

I wouldn't do adhesive stuff.

There are lots of tips online and pinterest about painting over mirrors, antiquing them, applying rub-on transfers, etc.

Chalk paint works well; you may need a primer.

As a 'temporary ' fix (ended up as several years) my friend bought really pretty privacy window film from Amazon. No adhesive. You wet the surface, apply the film and use something like a credit card to make sure there aren't any bubbles. It looked really good and stayed put (she didn't use chemicals to clean it). It comes off nicely if you want to change it or if a bit gets damaged.
