I've my house. I've been here for 4 years now but I HATE my kitchen. It is obviously the cheapest and nastiest possible put in in the worst possible way. There Is no decent storage and everything is weird corner cupboards you can't access easily
there is nowhere to put a dishwasher.
Im retiring in 5 years and I cant afford a big expensive kitchen. I can only go to 3k.
Is there anywhere I can go to get a kitchen for that amount?

how big is the kitchen. Do you need appliances? what is in it at the moment ie are the doors wood so that they could be painted? Are the boxes in decent condition so that you could just replace the doors?

Look at second hand kitchens on eBay? You can get them quite cheap then just pay for installation.
B&Q have units and cupboards and whatnot to put a kitchen together on the cheap, too.

I've been looking at secondhand kitchens online. We're the same with no dishwasher. There is a lot of dead space in our kitchen. I'm planning to rip out half of the old one and see what's behind. It will be chaotic for a few months. Ebay has loads of secondhand kitchens and there are companies which specialise. Obviously your need to check the configuration but you don't need to use ALL the cupboards that you buy - it's still a fraction of the cost. You can also paint most kitchens if the colour is not for you. I would do this if I were you, although I'm assuming you have lots of corners if there's lots of corner cupboards! Not sure how you'll get round that, other than open shelving.

Go on a Facebook group called Frenchic fan forum and put kitchens into the search bar. You will see how people can upcycled a kitchen and make a massive difference.

I have done up a number of houses and always find ikea the best for a cheap but attractive kitchen. Particularly good value if you use one of their wooden ranges.

What are your dimensions. Kitchen planning is one of my things so Im happy to do a plan for you if you post the dimensions including marking on the doors and windows.

Prettypaisleyslippers · 23/11/2023 10:44

My mate does up houses and likes the Wickes stuff.

also in the meantime look at the in cupboard options, there’s some clever gadgets to utilise corner cupboards. Wren kitchen showrooms are good for ideas.

My last house had an IKEA kitchen and it was lovely, however you had to order every single item right down to individual screws and it nearly finished me off. Otherwise I'd definitely get another one.

Wow, thank you. I'll sort a plan out.

You can use the kitchen planner tools they have online and it puts everything you need for your entire designed kitchen in your basket automatically.

We have an ikea kitchen, bought last year. Under 3k and theyborder everything for you. I love it.

Imreallytiredandanxioustoday · 25/11/2023 20:26

Ive just replaced ours. I measured all the existing doors and got new ones from B&Q.
Had a new workshop and sink and retiled the walls above the worktops.
Spent about £2500 Inc labour. Found a carpenter locally someone to put some plasterboard up for the tiles and a tiler.

Fofftwenty21 · 26/11/2023 10:27

@Imreallytiredandanxioustoday @Seaside3 who did you get to fit the units? I'm interested in doing the same in our kitchen. Lots of dead space and everything is in a weird place!

Imreallytiredandanxioustoday · 26/11/2023 10:30

I didn't change the units. They were in good condition and I didn't want the aggro. It was all finished in 2 days

Seaside3 · 26/11/2023 10:37

@Fofftwenty21 my husband is a joiner, so he did it.

spitefulandbadgrammar · 26/11/2023 10:47

I hate our kitchen too: the room is enormous and they’ve managed to design it so there’s no storage, no counter space and no room to move around, then vast useless swathes of space where you don’t need them. It’s a masterpiece of fucking up and we can’t afford to rip it out and start over.

We did tear out a cupboard and add a dishwasher; you can get slimline ones if you’re short on space.

IKEA is brilliant and using the online planner it just orders all the parts for you.

SpicyNoodleSoup · 26/11/2023 10:50

IKEA kitchen. Get the planners out and they order it all for you so no stress.

If you are looking at wickes get a quote from benchmarx.

they deep the same kitchens and you can negotiate price off against each other.

March is a good time to buy. They often want to hit sales targets before new tax year.
A few years ago I bought a kitchen from there and managed to buy at about 1.5% over cost price 🤩 by go back and forth between BM and wickes

TheFairyCaravan · 26/11/2023 11:31

DS2 has got a really nice kitchen. He got it from Wren and it cost him £5k so I’d imagine when they have a sale on you’d get one in your budget. He fitted it himself, though.

ValBiro · 26/11/2023 11:36

Our IKEA kitchen was £1500 in 2019, splashed out on the worktop (stone) which was another £1500... So you could definitely keep the cost at under 3k if you had a more basic worktop. We got IKEA to fit it and that was approx another 1k. Really good service!
