What sofa goes with a blue velvet one?

I have the most beautiful midnight blue velvet sofa, turns out it's hugely impractical as shows snot/gets dirty quickly with DC. I now need another sofa for that room. What sort of sofa goes with a blue velvet one? Needs to be hard wearing as I "encourage" dc and dh to sit on the non velvet one!

Thanks!

Great name OP, I'm guessing you aren't into seasons 3 onwards 😉

mustard, forest green i’d say

KitchenSinkLlama · 17/11/2023 18:38

Ops. Pressed send. My idea would be tan leather.

emerald green one, or get a throw in the velvet one

It depends on your colour scheme in the rest of your room, I would go with beige, grey or dark charcoal.

We have a midnight navy velvet sofa and have just bought a dark coral/red joules patterdale sofa. We have aquamarine walls

Watching with interest as I have midnight blue velvet dining chairs and I am about to replace my sofa.

Go tonal? A light light/mid blue? I have a light blue velvet sofa and that's very forgiving. It's not the velvet, just the dark navy colour.

I agree, the colour is the problem here, not the fabric. We have a velvet sofa in a light taupe colour and it's extremely forgiving - doesn't show crumbs, cat hair, etc. at all. Definitely go for a lighter colour. With something like a dark green, you'll most likely run into the same problem. Also, get some fabric swatches before you buy to test how forgiving and hardwearing they are.

Haha @KitchenSinkLlama RIP bun of steel 🤣

Thanks all, some good ideas here. I had considered brown leather but not sure if it would scuff easily? We have dark charcoal for the 2nd one now but a lighter grey might work well.

What colour are your walls, flooring and curtains?

JanewaysBun · 18/11/2023 01:19

The rest of the room is shades of beige. (Carpet is grey)

I have a blue velvet one and a cream leather corner one in the same room. Floors are laminate but in a grey/blue/cream and it all comes together really well.

Mustard

I have a navy velvet sofa and a teal fabric sofa that look good together. I Hoover my navy one every evening 😂

Tan leather - I bought stop gap sofas in tan leather when I had three kids under the age of three. They are very hard wearing and are still looking great 10 years later. Habitat ones (were Argos at the time). A bargain really as I thought they’d be awful by the time my youngest was 5! At the time in the sale two sofas (a three and a two seater) were under 800 hence I thought they’d be okay temporarily and if they made it 5 years the toddler years would be finished.

I am tempted to get a teal velvet sofa to replace one of them as I think it would look great, but the leathers are going strong and there’s other bits I should do first!

Orange. My dream sitting room has your blue sofa and a spicy orange velvet one too.

Leather is more practical as wipeable.

Our big sofa is navy velvet and our little sofa is beat-up-style tan leather.
